To help families find activities that are both family friendly as well as budget friendly this summer, I’m compiling a list of 101 Cheap & Free Summer Activities.  Some of the items on this list will be universal in regards to location, while others are more specific to the Cincinnati region.

You can find previous posts from this series here.

66.  Summer Blockbuster Movie Night

The Cheviot United Methodist Church is hosting a Summer Blockbuster Movie Night on Friday, August 7th at 6:30 p.m.  Movie-goers are invited to bring snacks to share, and water and lemonade will be provided.

If kids and adults would prefer to watch the movie on the floor, they can feel free to bring bean bags, pillows, and blankets to make themselves at home!

67.  Lowe’s Build & Grow Workshops

Lowe’s features a Build & Grow Workshop for children every other Saturday from 10-11 a.m.  Build & Grow Clinics are free and open to the public.  Participants need to register online prior to the event.

On August 8th, kids will have the opportunity to build Hulk’s Tank, while on August 22nd, they can build Thor’s Chariot.  There are also a number of frugal craft ideas on the Lowe’s website that would make fun (and inexpensive!) projects to work on with your kiddos this summer.

68.  Sharks & Penguins Visit the Library

Throughout the summer, the Wave Foundation at the Newport Aquarium will bring their shark tank to the Clermont County Public Library.  Kids will have a chance to touch the sharks during these events.  They will also bring a warm-weather African penguin to the library as well for participants to meet.

You can find the dates, times, and locations of these events here.

69.  Safety Night Out

The Villa Hills Police Department invites the community to attend their Safety Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th from 6-9 p.m.  This event will be held at Tom Braun Field, and will feature a K-9 unit, police displays, a bicycle rodeo, fire department trucks, a helicopter, and free refreshments.

Free parking will be available for this event as well.

70.  Family Night at Union Township Library

The Union Township Branch Library is featuring a Family Night Glow in the Dark event on Tuesday, August 4th at 6:45 p.m.  Families are encouraged to help light up the library as they enjoy glow-in-the-dark themed stories, songs and a special light-up surprise.

Participants can even wear PJs as they enjoy this luminous fun! For more information, you can call the library at 528-1744, plus you can join the event to reserve your spot.
