Data Warehouse Architect

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Moderate experience working as a data warehouse data modeler, in addition to experience with data warehouse/business intelligence projects using Data Warehouse best practices. Experience in Data modeling tools such as Erwin and Leading ETL tools (Oracle Data Integrator, Informatica, DataFlux) is preferred. Working knowledge of Oracle EBS, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, and Clinical Research Management Systems. Extensive experience in using Relational databases such as. Oracle 10g/9i, and its utilities (SQL, PL/SQL, SQL* Loader etc).

The purpose of the data warehouse architect is to solve critical business needs by modeling the business intelligence database environments. The primary responsibilities will be to logically and physically model source system and business intelligence databases and ensure the overall health and performance of the business intelligence database environment, conducting facilitated sessions, and working with developers to create database views as necessary.

Core Responsibilities

Develops, manages, and updates data models, including physical and logical models of the data warehouse, data mart(s), staging area, and source systems (as necessary) to meet new and changing business requirements.

Serves as Subject Matter Expert in data modeling concepts (star schema, snowflake schemas, normalized & de-normalized data models), and familiar with data modeling tools such as Erwin.

Serves as Subject Matter Expert in data warehouse analysis & design, particular using the fact / qualifier models.

Coordinates new data development, ensuring consistency and integration with existing data warehouse structure.

Develops processes for capturing and maintaining metadata from all data warehousing components.

Implements dimensional models, including aggregation and indexing strategies. Recommends strategy for database security.

Conducts ETL process design and sizing estimates for large scale data warehousing projects. Develops, tests, and implements extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes. Responsible for prototyping solutions, preparing test scripts, and conducting tests and for data replication, extraction, transformation, loading, cleansing, and data modeling for data warehouses.

Analyzes performance statistics and recommends improvements.

Responsible for gathering and assessing business information needs and preparing requirements, driving requirements through to implementation.

Responsible for database administration activities such as translate the logical database design into a physically implementable design.

Creating the databases and database objects from standards such as the tables, table spaces, synonyms, views, triggers, stored procedures, defaults, domains, and indexes.

Assists to maintain reliable and quality of delivered systems, which includes production support and enhancements for current and future project requirements. Continues to work to stabilize the system and reduces error rates in an effective and timely manner. Reviews and validates data loaded into the data warehouse for accuracy.

Provides technical guidance and direction in defining the project/system level information technology and data architecture strategy. Ensures consistent use of information architecture standards.

Coordinates and supports development efforts of technical and corporate staffs with SQL tuning efforts as well as ongoing application implementation, support and upgrades. Assists in resolution of complex application, database, application server, network, and web server issues.

Participates in the creation of user documentation and metadata. Assures that all work properly utilizes SDLC guidelines and utilizes defined standard tool sets.

Skills & Attributes
