Cult Of Blu-Ray Addicts
The COBRA Connection is the connection for your collection! A niche-focused listing of new and exclusive domestic (US) Blu-ray releases. There are a lot of sites out there that list the major new releases, but we’re more interested in more collectable fare such as retailer exclusives, boutique distributors, limited editions, and the “best” editions of any particular new release. We’re Blu-ray focused but may include the odd DVD. Links point to Amazon where applicable or retailer/distributor websites as needed.
Game Of Thrones Season 6 hit Blu-ray this week with exclusive bonus discs available at Walmart and Target. The Steelbook series gets caught up as well, with Seasons 5 and 6 available at Best Buy. There’s also a new giant box set of the first 6 seasons, but why in the hell would you buy it with just two more seasons left to go? Don’t be an idiot.
The week’s other big release is Disney’s Finding Dory, with exclusives at Best Buy and Target. Disney is also releasing latecomer 3D versions of The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book this week. This seems to be their new double-dipping game with that format, so 3D collectors take note.
Synapse’s Limited Edition Steelbook of Phenomena should be shipping by now – super expensive but super awesome. Best Buy has introduced some new titles to their “Pop Art” Steelbook series. As usual, the art is very hit and miss. Fred Olen Ray has announced on Facebook that (non-limited, unsigned) reprints of the sold out Biohazard and Don Dohler’s The Alien Factor will appear on Amazon around November 16.
Other titles of interest include Dead Ringers, a Space Jam Steelbook, Punch Drunk Love, Kurosawa’s Dreams, Hannie Caulder, Macbeth, Time After Time, and tons of catalogue releases with new waves from Twilight Time, Kino, and Olive Films.
