Communications

Interns must work a minimum of 10 hours per week. The internship dates are flexible according to academic calendars, and preference is given to graduate students and those who can work more than the required hours (never more than 40). Expenses related to the daily commute to and from the office will be reimbursed up to $300 per month.

Primary Purpose:

The Communications and Refugee Affairs Intern will work with CWS fundraising and communications efforts in planning several public events in the New York City metro area.  The intern will focus on developing outreach materials and marketing strategy related to CWS’ annual benefit to be held in December of 2016, as well as preparing for the UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants on September 19th, 2016.

The ideal candidate will have a background in event planning, marketing, journalism, or other fundraising and donor outreach strategies.  The intern will have exceptional editorial and writing skills, especially in web and email marketing contexts to create varied and engaging content.  The intern will work with the Associate Director for Individual Giving to engage with the promotion of CWS programs in the New York metro area, and assist with CWS engagement related to the UN Summit in September.

Essential Duties:

Create outreach campaigns and manage correspondence with potential sponsors as well as nominees for CWS winter benefit event.

Create and distribute social media content as well as email marketing campaigns in coordination with the Associate Director for External Relations. whoops

Common Duties:

Review and craft refugee narratives for distribution to CWS supporters and refugee advocates in the New York City area.

Create narratives and graphic information that can be shared in CWS supporter updates newsletter and other outreach campaigns.

Draft CWS Newsletter and work with Associate Director for Individual Giving to grow distribution list of individuals interested in refugee resettlement.

Research and implement strategies for growing CWS social media engagement in the NYC area.

Work with Media and Policy Officer to create new digital content for CWS website and social media platforms.

Review CWS media contacts, updating information in CWS contacts database in coordination with Media and Advocacy Officer.

Requirements:

Interns must be enrolled in higher education.  They must possess high quality writing and editing skills, proficiency with online communications tools, and possess creativity, initiative, and the ability to multi-task. Passion and commitment to the work of CWS is essential.

Education: Interns must be enrolled in higher education, with a preference for those obtaining a masters degree in journalism, communications, international affairs or other related fields.

Experience: Previous marketing experience, as well as social media and email campaign marketing preferred.  Previous work experience and interest in refugee assistance, resettlement, or other direct social services preferred.

Other Skills:

Knowledge of adobe creative suite programs like InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop preferred.

Knowledge of digital campaign strategies and implementation techniques preferred.

Knowledge of web management programs like WordPress
