Pastor Pete Wilson, the founder and senior pastor of Cross Point Church in Nashville, has resigned from his position due to burnout.
You can see a clip from Wilson’s announcement to the congregation in the video below.
On Sunday morning, Wilson announced his decision to the congregation. In a video of the announcement posted to Cross Point’s website, Wilson shares, “We’ve said that this is a church where it’s okay to not be okay, and I’m not okay. I’m tired. And I’m broken and I just need some rest.”
The main reasons he shared for leaving were being tired, “leading on empty” and neglecting some things that should have been prioritized. Wilson was diligent to assure the congregation that he is for the church and wishes them to continue in the vision of “loving the unloved.”
Toward the end of his announcement, Wilson said, “The vision of this church is not me, by the way. I speak words, but that’s all vision is, it’s just words when it’s spoken. Vision becomes vision when it gets lived out. And you guys have lived it out. And I believe that our best days are ahead.”
Wilson and his wife, Brandi, planted Cross Point in 2003, which has since grown to more than 7,000 people in attendance each week across five locations and online.
Burnout can happen to the best of us, especially when it comes to ministry. As Wilson put it in his announcement, he had poured himself into the vision of the church, at the price of neglecting other things that were “equally as important.” If you suspect you are experiencing burnout, we recommend the following articles:
