A few months ago Samsung released a Drive Restoration Tool for the Samsung 840 Evo SSD which also included a firmware update for the SSD. You simply needed to run the Restoration Tool and let it do its business, which took a few minutes. The Restoration Tool was designed to fix performance issues relating to read speeds when accessing older files, whilst also updating the drives firmware. Sadly it looks like the fix was not successful, but don't worry Samsung has released a new firmware update (EXT0DB6Q) which should and remaining issues.
