A delegation of seven players have finally left the country headed to Maseru, Lesotho ready for the AAPA continental Pool games currently going on. The Pool Cranes have left the country aboard Rwandair through Kigali and are expected to launch their campaign on Thursday evening.
“The Uganda delegation of 7 leave aboard Rwandair via Kigali today and will have their first team match tomorrow evening . The pool association didn’t receive any funding from government and has only managed to secure a few return tickets for the men’s team, which was necessary for Uganda to strengthen the bid to host the 2016 edition of the games,” an optimistic PAU chairman Mr. Farouk Wamala said.
Among the selected players include the 2015 National Pool Championships finalists Alfred Gumukiriza and the winner Amos Ndyagumanawe. The rest of the team are Sula
Matovu and Fahad Ssewankambo. They will be guided by team manager David Mugabi and Douglas Mayanja, who are supposed to represent the nation at the AAPA annual general meeting.
Sad news for the Pool community is that the Ladies team wont be represented despite holding the second spot in the previous championship in Dar Es Salaam.
Until press time, a total of eight nations had confirmed participation; they include our own Uganda, South Africa , Swaziland , Zimbabwe , Zambia , Tanzania , Malawi and the tournament hosts Lesotho.
