Police in northwest suburban Crystal Lake are looking for a man wanted for threatening someone with a gun during an argument Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to a house in the 1700 block of Somerfield Lane at 1:07 p.m. with reports of a disturbance involving a man armed with a handgun, Crystal Lake police said in a statement.

Upon arrival, the officers met with the victim who told them 23-year-old Daniel Hawkins pointed a handgun at him during an argument, police said. Preliminary investigation indicated that Hawkins, who lives in the house, had gone back inside before police arrived.

Authorities secured a perimeter around the home and a wider perimeter around the subdivision to keep all non-emergency traffic out of the area, police said. As a precaution, police also alerted area residents and notified Crystal Lake School Districts 47 and 155 about the incident.

Several attempts to make contact with Hawkins failed, and further investigation revealed that he was not inside the home, police said. No threats to the public were identified, and the scene was released by 6:30 p.m.

An arrest warrant and criminal complaint were issued for Hawkins, charging him with a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault, police said. His current whereabouts were not known.

Anyone with information about Hawkins is asked to contact Crystal Lake police at (815) 356-3620. Anonymous tips can also be texted to 847411 with the keyword “TIPCLPD” inside the message.
