Hundreds of construction workers are keeping busy on the numerous projects underway in the booming area

Residents of the West Loop neighborhood can’t escape the sounds and sights of construction. There are dozens of new developments under construction in the area this very moment, and it looks like the West Loop and Fulton Market neighborhoods may have another big year in 2017. Here’s a look at just a handful of the many new buildings that workers are busily erecting in the booming neighborhood.

CA Aberdeen

This six-story, 69-unit project will feature only 2,000-square-foot three-bedroom, three-bathroom units which will start over the $800,000 range. The development has been designed by Sullivan Goulette & Wilson and will contain 78 parking spaces but will forgo any ground level retail offerings. Demolition crews were spotted last summer clearing the site and construction started after the permits were issued in November.

111ume (111 S. Peoria)

The new 111ume condo project for 111 S. Peoria Street is officially underway and once completed, will deliver 79 condo units in the form of a 10-story building. Pricing for the units will start at $192,000 for a one-bedroom condo and run up to $2.495 million for one of the larger penthouses.

1035 W. Van Buren

The new 30-story 1035 W. Van Buren will deliver 308-rental units when it is completed. One of the larger developments under construction in the West Loop area at the moment, the Morris Adjmi-designed tower from developer Related Midwest will stand at 308 feet when it tops out.

625 W. Adams

A new 20-story West Loop office tower is slated for 625 W Adams, replacing a surface parking lot owned by Old St. Patrick’s Church. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the 432,000-square-foot building will feature a two-story lobby, ground floor retail, five levels of parking, outdoor terraces for tenants, and an event area reserved for the neighboring church to replace its lost space.

1001 W. Chicago

Once the site of the Gonnella Baking Company, the new development coming to 1001 W. Chicago will bring 360 apartment units and 35,000 square feet of retail space to the 1.8 acre property. The project, designed by FitzGerald Associates, will be comprised of two mid-rise towers that will each stand on top of a large retail base.

1330 W. Fulton

This project in the hot Fulton Market area comes from Chicago's Sterling Bay, the development firm behind the adaptive reuse of the Fulton Cold Storage Building. The completed nine-story commercial development will provide tenants with 290,000 square feet of office space and will offer amenities such as a rooftop terrace, private balconies, and landscaped green space.

171 N. Aberdeen

Located at the southeast corner of Lake and Aberdeen, the 0.66-acre site — known as both 165 and 171 N Aberdeen — is making way for a masonry and glass structure that will feature 15,000 square feet of ground floor retail topped by 40,000 square feet of Class A office space and 75 dwelling units (eight of which will be affordable rate).

110 N. Carpenter (McDonald’s HQ)

It’s only been a couple of months since the construction permit for the 600,000-square-foot office project at 110 N. Carpenter Street was issued, but already, construction crews have made a noticeable effort on the development. And workers will continue moving fast—McHugh Construction reps previously stated that anticipated build time is expected to be 18 months.
