I mentioned in my last post about the Culinary Showcase press trip I went on recently, that I was very surprised to discover a holiday to Walt Disney World doesn’t just have to be about the thrills of the iconic Disney magic but can include a whole new world of dining experiences too. Thanks to Walt Disney World’s dining plans, cost does not have to mean a compromise on dining options because the choice of three tailored plans enables guests to dine in a choice of up to 100 locations within the six parks, resort hotels and the Downtown Disney area.

A very special video of my experience at Walt Disney World

Whether dining in one of the fancier restaurants in Disney or a self service one such as Sunshine Seasons in Epcot there is no doubt you will find something for everyone. The choice is vast with most dietary requirements catered for. I would feel very happy and relaxed taking my son knowing there is gluten free food on offer. Kosher food is available but 24 hours notice is required. There are even sugar free choices. I tried one of the sugar free desserts in Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. It was interesting, definitely a good alternative to a sugar laden one.

Meatballs, not burgers, at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant

Disney have a commitment to serving healthy food, they serve more than 20,000 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables every year and standard children’s meals now contain grapes, apples, carrot sticks and apple sauce and water or milk in replace of fizzy drinks. French fries and fizzy drinks must be requested (at no extra cost). I certainly noticed the difference to when I visited Walt Disney World 15 years ago, I remember trying to seek out anything other than chips/fries to no avail, so this is a revelation. You could visit a different place to eat for your entire visit to the parks and resorts and not get bored of the food.

Lunch on the go Disney style, I was far too busy having fun to stop…excuse the half eaten toasted cheese and ham croissant, I was too hungry to wait before the photo was taken.

Of course if you want to indulge then you can too…you have got to have a Mickey Mouse waffle with syrup and whipped cream. Amazing!

I still have so much to share with you about this trip; The Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort, My Top Two Favourite Restaurants, Cupcake Decorating and Tequila Tasting, and last but not least the rides…yes I did the rides and here is a sneak peak of me on Expedition Everest in the Animal Kingdom…scared much? Me? Noooo.
