Godse’s final court appearance where he was sentenced to death. The trial ran for eight months before Justice Atma Charan passed his final order on 10 February 1949. Eight men were convicted for the murder conspiracy, and others convicted for violation of the Explosive Substances Act. Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were sentenced to death by hanging and the remaining six (including Godse’s brother, Gopal) were sentenced to life imprisonment although Dattatraya Parchure, who had been found guilty in the original trial was later acquitted on appeal.

The first freedom struggle of India in 1857 famously known as the Sepoy Mutiny or the Rising of 1857. Two rebels executed by the Britishers. As the British re-conquered rebel areas, they took a terrible revenge on the Indian population. Stories of atrocities were exaggerated by British soldiers and the press, that resulted in a harsh retribution. Trials of prisoners were swift, arbitrary and brief, and usually resulted in a death sentence. Those convicted of mutiny were either hanged, or latched to the muzzles of cannon and blown away.
