The first flakes are falling around Hampton Roads, and already, the closures and delays are rolling in.

Schools (Virginia)

Chesapeake Public Schools was scheduled to have a teacher workday on Tuesday, so students were not expected to report to school. The second semester begins Wednesday.

Eastern Virginia Medical School will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Hampton City Schools has canceled after-school activities for Tuesday.

Isle of Wight County Schools will have early dismissals on Tuesday. Middle and high schools will dismiss at 11 a.m. and elementary schools will dismiss at 12:20 p.m.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will close at 11:45 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities will also be canceled.

Newport News Public Schools will dismiss students 1 1/2 hours early on Tuesday and all after-school and evening activities are also canceled.

Norfolk Public Schools will close at 2:30 today, and all staff are released. Students were not in school because of a teacher work day. Information about revised exam schedules as a result of last week's snow days is available on the website. Announcements about Wednesday will be made soon.

Norfolk State University will close at 2 p.m. today and will be closed Wednesday. Classes and events are canceled. Only essential personnel need report.

Old Dominion University will close at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and will remain closed on Wednesday. Essential personnel should report to work as directed by their supervisor. For information on dining services and other campus functions, see here.

The ODU Economic Forecast Luncheon scheduled for Wednesday has been rescheduled for Feb. 5 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott..

The "ODU Presents" lecture with Timothy Gay, scheduled for Tuesday night, has been cancelled.

Portsmouth Public Schools have canceled all activities after school. No decision has been made about Wednesday. The 6 to Six Before & After Child Care program will be closed this afternoon. If inclement weather persists, the program also will be closed Wednesday morning.

Suffolk Public Schools: All afternoon and evening activities for today are cancelled. Students will make up the missed snow day from Friday, Jan 24, on Monday, Feb. 17 (Presidents Day). Snow days missed on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and Thursday, Jan. 23, are covered by extra instructional hours and will not be made up. Exams originally scheduled for Jan. 23 are now rescheduled for Tuesday, which is now going to be an early-dismissal day for all students.

Tidewater Community College will close at 2 p.m. today and be closed on Wednesday.

Virgina Beach Public Schools will close one hour early today. High schools will dismiss at 1:10 p.m., "A" elementary schools at 1:40 p.m., "B" elementary schools at 2:10 p.m. and middle schools at 2:50 p.m. After-school and evening activities are canceled, including afternoon classes at Renaissance Academy and evening classes at the Adult Learning Center. Changes to Wednesday's schedule will be sent to parents and staff via Alert Now phone calls. Information will also be posed on vbschools.com and the division's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

York County School Division is scheduled to have exams on Tuesday with an early dismissal. After-school activities are cancelled. The Champions program will operate and will contact parents if early closing is needed.

Community/Government (Virginia)

Navy installations in Hampton Roads -- Non-essential personnel do not need to report to work on Wednesday. Essential personnel should report.

The City of Chesapeake will close all city offices, libraries and community centers at 3 p.m. today. All activities, programs and classes at libraries, community centers and other facilities scheduled for 3 p.m., or later today are canceled. Tonight's City Council is canceled

The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art’s evening classes tonight and all Wednesday classes are canceled.  The Spring Exhibition Opening scheduled for Friday 31st has been rescheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7. Pre-purchased tickets will be honored on the 7th.

Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will close at 1 p.m. today.

Norfolk Circuit Court & Clerk's Office will close at 3 p.m. today.

The Norfolk Sports Club has postponed its annual jamboree, scheduled for Wednesday. Details.

The Norview Heights Civic League has canceled its meeting tonight. The Better Block presentation will be made during the regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Feb., 18 at Norview Baptist Church.

Portsmouth City offices, libraries and museums will close at 2:15 p.m. today.

The Portsmouth City Council meeting and public work session has been canceled. The 10 Steps to Starting Your Business in Portsmouth seminar scheduled for tonight has been canceled. Participants will be contacted directly about a make-up date.

Portsmouth City residents should avoid parking on city streets in case snow plow access is needed. Free parking for residents is available in the County Street, Harbor Court, Middle Street and Water Street garages. Do not park in spaces marked as 24-hour reserved, Harbor Tower, Police Department or Sheriff's Department. Propery owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of their property. The city will remove snow first from bridges and primary roads, then from city buildings and garages, then from secondary roads.

The Norfolk Society of Arts lecture, scheduled for Wednesday at the Harrison Opera House, has been cancelled.

The Norfolk Admirals hockey game against the Charlotte Checkers, scheduled for Tuesday night, has been canceled.

Suffolk Parks & Recreation afterschool KidZone programs will close early today. Children must be picked up by 3 p.m. All other practices and programs scheduled for tonight have been canceled. For more information, call Suffolk Parks & Recreation at (757) 514-7250.

Suffolk Public Libraries have canceled the following events for Wednesday: Toddler Time and Preschool Time at the North Suffolk and Morgan Memorial libraries, Story Time at the Chuckatuck Branch Library. Suffolk City offices, including all libraries, the East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Suffolk Visitor Center, will close at 3 p.m. today.

Virginia Stage Company has canceled performances of "The Honky Tonk Angels" for tonight and Wednesday. Tickets may be exchanged by calling (757) 627-1234. The box office will be closed Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. It will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Portsmouth's 6 to Six before and after-school child care is closed for Tuesday. If bad weather persists, it will be closed on Wednesday morning as well. For information, call (757) 393-8481.

Portsmouth Department of Economic Development's free seminar, "10 Steps to Starting Your Business in Portsmouth," has been canceled. Those who had registered will be emailed directly with details about rescheduling.

The d'Art Center will close at 3 p.m. today. All classes scheduled for tonight and Wednesday are canceled.

Portsmouth Naval Medical Center clinics and branch medical clinics will be closed Wednesday. The center's emergency room will be open. Staff should follow guidance from their chain of command. Updates will be posted on Facebook.

Virginia Beach City Council will meet at 2:30 p.m. in closed session; the rest of the meeting has been rescheduled. The city manager's briefings will be held on Feb. 4. The rest of the agenda, including public hearings, will move to Feb. 11 and 25. Meeting times have not been set yet.

 Virginia Beach trash and recycling collection has been canceled for Wednesday.

The Virginia Aquarium and all city recreation centers, parks and libraries, except the Joint-Use Library, will close at 5 p.m. today. The Joint-Use Library will close at 2 p.m. and stay closed on Wednesday. City closings for Wednesday will be announced later.

Norfolk City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. All items are continued to Feb. 11.

Norfolk City offices, facilities, libraries and attractions will close at 3 p.m. today. City offices will be closed on Wednesday and there will be no trash or recycling pickup. Collection of bulk waste, yard waste, e-waste and household hazardous waste is canceled for the rest of the week.

The Virginia Zoo will close today at 2 p.m. and remain closed Wednesday.

Norfolk SPCA will close at 4 p.m.Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday.

CareerConnection's New Year New Career Fair scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed until Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center.

Fort Eustis will open Wednesday with a 2-hour delay. Employees who cannot report for work may take unscheduled or liberal leave and must notify their superiors. Essential personnel should report on time.

Newport News City Council Tuesday work session and regular meeting are canceled. Trash, bulk and recycling pickups have been canceled for Wednesday. Wednesday collections will be made on Thursday, and Thursday collections on Friday. The city's compost facility at 550 Atkinson Way will also be closed. Newport News public libraries will close at 5:30 p.m. today,

The Mariners' Museum in Newport News will close at 3 p.m. today.

Hampton City libraries, community centers and parks are closed Tuesday evening. The homeless shelter at First Presbyterian Church on South Armistead Avenue is ready to open early if needed and to remain open during the day Wednesday.

Hampton City Wetlands Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been canceled.

Hampton Roads Transit has rescheduled two public hearings on the proposed fare increase. Tonight's hearing has been rescheduled to 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 5, in the Forum Room of Tidewater Community College's Portsmouth campus, 120 Campus Drive. This location is served by Route 45. Tomorrow's hearing is rescheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Hampton HRT office, 3400 Victoria Blvd. This location is served by Route 103.

Nauticus will be closed on Wednesday.

The James City Board of Supervisors 4 p.m. work session and 7 p.m. meeting, and the James City Service Authority Board of Directors meeting are postponed until Feb. 4 (work session agenda items), Feb. 11 (supervisors' meeting) and Feb. 25 (service authority).
