Job Title: Child and Family Therapist (Ability to speak Arabic a distinct advantage)

ROLE:

The Child and Family Therapist will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure clients, their families and carers receive services that are recovery focused, strengths based, culturally competent, person – centered and trauma-informed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interview clients, review records, conduct assessments and confer with colleagues to evaluate the mental or physical condition of clients

Determine whether clients should be counselled or referred to other colleagues/specialists e.g. medicine, psychiatry and legal assistance.

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to assist clients identify their feelings and behaviours; addressing intrapsychic processes and interpersonal relationship problems.

Counsel clients in individual, couple, family or group sessions to assist them in dealing with substance use disorders and the concomitant physical, mental and social correlates.

Provide evidence-based psychotherapy in individual, couple, family or group sessions to assist them in dealing with substance use disorders and the concomitant physical, mental and social correlates.

Assess capacity and obtain informed consent and, where clients lack capacity to consent, to have the ability to work within a legal and ethical framework.

Counsel or aid family members or carers to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting the client.

Attend multidisciplinary case meetings, to plan, monitor and evaluate care.

Devise and monitor appropriate programs of treatment in collaboration with colleagues.

Promote a ‘recovery’ based approach to care.

Participate in applied research, adding to the evidence base of practice in addictions and related areas.

Maintain appropriately detailed records to monitor the progress of clients’ treatments.

Contribute to a positive work and learning environment by promoting teamwork, co-operation and harmonious relationships amongst colleagues.

Assume any other responsibilities and functions as directed by the Consultant and CEO within the scope of the post.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

Master’s degree in a human services field or equivalent.

Accredited psychotherapy training in family therapy and/or child psychotherapy

Five years of recent relevant experience in the addictions/mental health field.

Licensed as a registered Family Therapist or Psychotherapist.

Eligible for licensure as a Family Therapist or Psychotherapist in Qatar.

Arabic speaking/understanding and English.

Knowledge of clinical mental health and psychiatric fields.

Knowledge of mental health recovery models.

IT literate.
