Have you checked out McColl Center for Art + Innovation yet? This vibrant contemporary art center houses nine artist studios in Uptown Charlotte and welcomes artists from around the world to our community. The multi-level gallery space features inspiring art exhibitions like Remember, a multimedia experience by Charlotte-based artist Ivan Toth Depeña, currently on view. Located in a neo-Gothic church in the heart of Uptown at 721 North Tryon Street, this unique space is a must visit. Extra plus: admission is free.

You’re invited to experience what makes McColl Center the vibrant contemporary art center that it is by visiting for Open Studio Saturday. The Artists-in-Residence open their studios to you and your family to talk about their work and creative process. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

The next Open Studio Saturday, on February 11th, 2017, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.:

Explore art and ideas of all kinds when our artists-in-residence – Rob Carter, Dustin Farnsworth, Scott Gardner, Rebecca Kamen, and Marcus Kiser + Jason Woodberry – open their studio doors to talk about their creative process.

FALLEN FRUIT FACTORY (12-4 PM)
There will be hands-on art-making activities, too. Join artist-in-residence Austin Young of Fallen Fruit and other local artists to create poems and collages inspired by photographs of fruit. The collages you make will come together in a free downloadable online zine. (The artworks created during this workshop will be retained by the artists and eventually sold to raise funds for The Endless Orchard, the artists’ public tree planting project happening in cities around the world.)

QUENTIN TALLEY & THE X-MEN (2 PM)
Poet, actor, director, and producer Quentin Talley joins artists-in-residence Marcus Kiser and Jason Woodberry to bring to life characters from the artists’ Intergalactic Soul project. Think Q’s signature spoken word style layered over a live jazz and soul fusion band surrounded by Kiser and Woodberry’s dynamic duo artwork. Limited space for an audience, so get here early.

FOOD TRUCK (12-4 PM)
Hiya Korean Fusion will be here serving up delicious lunch items and snacks from 12 to 4 PM.
