According to ACRL Insider “The expert panel has completed voting and the topics for the NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Library Edition have been selected — below. The report is a collaboration between the NMC, the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Chur, Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) Hannover, and ETH-Bibliothek Zurich, with ACRL as the distribution partner. It is set to be released on March 23, 2017, at the ACRL 2017 Conference. We’re now looking for any projects, programs, policies, or leadership initiatives that fit any of the chosen areas. Print Sales Increase by 3.3% in 2016
According the GoodE-Reader “the publishing industry has faced a tumultuous year with the election cycle, the decreased demand for adult coloring books and the lack of a breakout bestseller. People still bought books in droves and the sales of hardcover/paperback sales rose by 3.3% in 2016.
Most print formats had an outstanding year, with hardcover up 5.4%, trade paperback up 4%, and board books up 7.4%. Mass market has been on the wane since the introduction of e-books, and its slide continued in 2016 with a 7.7% drop in unit sales. Physical audio, where sales were down 13.5% on the year, but digital audio doubled.
OverDrive Reports Library Borrowing of eBooks and Audiobooks Up 21% in 2016
The Digital Reader reports that Overdrive says that “readers borrowed 196 million digital books, an increase of 21 percent over 2015. Of the 678 million visits to library and school websites, readers borrowed more eBooks (+16%) and audiobooks (+34%) from their local and school libraries digital catalog compared to last year…”

Library Technology Guides reports that “LYRASIS, the longest serving non-profit for archives, libraries and museums in the United States, announces the opening of its new Catalyst Fund. The Catalyst fund will award up to $100k to fund innovative ideas and kick start new programs of interest to LYRASIS member institutions.
