Library Technology Guides reports that “The academic and research libraries of the Eastern Academic Scholars’ Trust (EAST) meet today in Boston to celebrate the largest shared print monograph initiative to date. The institutional members of EAST have committed to retain over 6 million print monographs for an initial period of 15 years. These items represent scholarly content that might otherwise have been discarded as these libraries reconfigure and reclaim space to meet the needs of today’s research and teaching institutions…”

Library Technology Guides also reports that “Springer Nature announced that it has rolled out its free content sharing initiative, now named SharedIt, to all of the Springer Nature-owned portfolio and over one thousand additional co-owned and partner-owned journals. This now encompasses over 2,300 journals and enables authors and subscribers to post links to free-to-read versions of primary research articles anywhere, including social media platforms, repositories, websites, scholarly collaborative networks and via emails…”

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Launches Digital Fabergé Archive

infoDOCKET reports that “the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts announced the launch of its first digital archive, which documents the formation of the museum’s renowned Fabergé and Russian decorative arts collection at www.faberge.vmfa.museum. Organized through the museum’s Margaret R. and Robert M. Freeman Library, this project was made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Maya Lin Shares Design for New Neilson Library at Smith College

Also according to infoDOCKET “Maya Lin unveiled drawings of the new Neilson Library building at an event on campus on October 14… The new Neilson places a premium on flexible space that blends traditional collections with new technologies and a sharper focus on collaborative learning. The new building retains the original 1909 structure, including the venerable Neilson Browsing Room, but replaces the 1962 and 1982 additions with “jewel box” wings—constructed of masonry, wood and glass—that offer open, inviting, light-filled spaces designed to support research, teaching and learning in a variety of styles…”

Providence Public Library’s Digital Library Adds Over 6,500 Hi-Res Digitized Photos
