Applications for the 2016 “Leading to the Future” ALA Leadership Institute (August 8-11, Eaglewood Resort, Itasca, Illinois) will be accepted through April 15, 2016. The institute is designed to help future library leaders develop and practice their leadership skills in areas critical to the future of the libraries they lead.
Building on the success of the past three ALA Leadership Institutes, and with support from Innovative Interfaces, Inc., the four-day immersive leadership development program for up to 40 mid-career librarians will be led again by ALA past-president Maureen Sullivan and library and leadership consultant Kathryn Deiss.
The application form as well as details and guidelines are available on the Transforming Libraries website. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by their employer. Participation includes a free one-year membership in LLAMA (Library Leadership and Management Association).
Through reflective and active learning, the institute offers participants an opportunity to delve into leadership practices, concepts, and frameworks, and to shape their own sustainable leadership vision and ethos, at the same time as building a learning community and network. With content based on real-world cases and nuanced situations, participants explore topics related to the greatest challenges and possibilities of leading into a future marked by turbulence and ambiguity…”
ALA, Harwood Institute announce 2016 Public Innovators Lab for Libraries community engagement training opportunity
According to ALA News “the American Library Association (ALA) and The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation have announced their fourth annual training opportunity to help libraries strengthen their role as agents of positive change in their communities.
The Public Innovators Lab for Libraries will be held Oct. 19 to 21, 2016, at the Loudermilk Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Librarians, community partners and stakeholders in libraries of all types — public, academic, school and specialty libraries — are encouraged to register.
Through discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborations with like-minded library professionals, participants will learn to:
tap libraries’ natural values to contribute to the greater good and bring their communities together;
surface people’s shared aspirations for their communities and help bring them to life;
convene and lead productive, insightful community conversations; and
become stewards of public knowledge.
Participants must register online by Oct. 14. The cost is $1,495 for the first person from an organization and $995 for each additional person. Team participation is encouraged.

The Conference for Entrepreneurial Librarians

The fifth Conference for Entrepreneurial Librarians will explore how librarians exhibit entrepreneurship by re-imagining libraries of the future now. The conference goal is twofold: to inspire entrepreneurial action among librarians and to create a community among those who do.
The conference will be held on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro on October 17, 2016. It is sponsored by the libraries at Wake Forest University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
We seek librarians and information professionals to present about projects related to the conference theme. Topics may include but are not limited to:
Creative ways librarians and libraries are re-imagining their roles
New programs or solutions that made a difference in your library or community
Initiatives that exhibited a culture of change and risk taking
Responses to external forces that inspired change
Beneficial change demonstrated through measurable outcomes
Presentation Formats:
Forty-five minute break-out sessions including Q&A which may be panels or single presenters. Proposals should include an abstract of no more than 250 words.
