Thousands of Books Rescued from Inside of Turkey’s National Library

InfoDOCKET also reports that “following an investigation at the library (National Library of Turkey) about a year ago, it was discovered that more than 350,000 books had been neglected in storage and covered with spider webs. Upon the instructions of Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik, the rehabilitation of the books began immediately. Moreover, library officials discovered that tens of thousands of books were sold for TL 0.15 ($0.06) per kilogram as waste paper during the same period. Therefore, the directorate began searching for books that had actually once belonged to the library…”

WorldCat Discovery now includes full text snippets and search

According to OCLC “support for full text comes to WorldCat Discovery. The new service that is scheduled to replace FirstSearch in December 2015—and eventually WorldCat Local—now supports full text searching and display of short “snippets” of the full text resources within the discovery experience. This way, libraries can support their users’ desire for full text scholarship and provide additional context within search results. Additional enhancements this month improve the embedded search box and Google Analytics reporting…”
