ALA Announces New Executive Director, Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS)

According to this ALA press release Keri Cascio is the new Executive Director designate of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS). “Ms. Cascio is currently the Director of Innovative Technologies and Library Resource Management at the Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering and Technology in Kansas City (MO), where she has been since December 2011.

Prior to joining the Linda Hall Library, Keri was a Branch Manager at the St. Charles City-County Library District in St. Peters (MO) and a Librarian/Trainer at the Missouri Library Network Corporation in St. Louis. Earlier positions included stints with the St. Louis Public Library, St. Louis County Library, Data Research Associates (DRA) and Sirsi Corporation.

In addition to her varied work experience, Keri brings a strong record of volunteer activity with ALA/ALCTS and the Missouri Library Association (MLA). Keri was a 2007 ALA Emerging Leader. She is currently a Director-at-Large on the ALCTS Board of Directors and has served on numerous ALCTS committees, most notably the Continuing Education Committee. In addition to her ALA/ALCTS work, Keri Cascio served on the Executive Board of the Missouri Library Association from 2011-2013, serving as Secretary in 2013. She has served on several MLA committees. She has also been a frequent presenter on topics ranging from leadership to preservation of digital images…”

S&S Combining Digital and Marketing Under Liz Perl

According to Shelf Awareness, “Simon & Schuster is combining Simon & Schuster Digital with the corporate marketing department under Liz Perl, who is being promoted to executive v-p, chief marketing officer. In a memo to staff, S&S president and CEO Carolyn Reidy said, “In creating this powerful, unified marketing and digital group we will both expand the range of digital efforts that advance our publishing agenda and assure that we are well positioned to promote discovery of our books via all traditional and digital marketing means at our disposal.”

At the same time, Ellie Hirschhorn, executive v-p, chief digital officer, is leaving the company, effective December 12. Reidy noted that Hirschhorn, who joined S&S in 2008, “set us on our digital path and has made a significant contribution to our success during an era of dramatic changes in publishing…”

Dr. Sharon Hammes-Schiffer named editor-in-chief of Chemical Reviews

KnowledgeSpeak reports that “the American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced the appointment of Dr. Sharon Hammes-Schiffer as editor-in-chief of Chemical Reviews, effective January 1, 2015. Hammes-Schiffer is Swanlund Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Her appointment represents the return of Chemical Reviews to its home. William Albert Noyes, former head of the chemistry department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, was the founding editor of Chemical Reviews, first published in 1925. To honour his work, the Noyes Laboratory at the University of Illinois is an ACS National Historic Chemical Landmark.

Through her service as a senior editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry suite and currently as deputy editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry B, Hammes-Schiffer has long been associated with ACS Publications. She also has been on the editorial advisory boards of Accounts of Chemical Research, the Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation and the Journal of the American Chemical Society…”
