SINGAPORE: A fire broke out outside a restaurant in Bussorah Street in Kampong Glam on Friday (Jun 12), causing diners and passers-by in the vicinity to flee.

A Channel NewsAsia viewer who identified himself as Mr Ng Ah Peng said he was in the area at about 4.30pm when he heard people shouting about a fire. He reported seeing more than 60 people running away from the area.

Mr Ng said the fire appeared to have been ignited from a gas pipe. He added that the shelter and walls on the exterior of the outlet were charred from the blaze.

Photos submitted by Mr Ng showed that the fire was situated at the side alley of the restaurant, which appeared to be an al fresco dining area. The restaurant is believed to also provide shisha.

There were about two Red Rhinos and a fire engine at the scene, and Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel put out the fire in about 10 minutes using at least one water jet, along with fire-fighting foam, said Mr Ng.
