TAINAN: A powerful earthquake of 6.4 magnitudes has struck southern city of Tainan, Taiwan, which caused many buildings to collapse and other structures to lean dangerously.

As per details there are no immediate reports of deaths or serious casualties. US Geological Survey has recorded powerful tremors of 6.4 magnitude early at wee-hour local time. A 17-storey apartment building collapsed and crews had so far rescued 123 people from the wreckage.

According to a fire brigade official said. “There are 240 people are there in that building,” said Tainan city government fire service spokesman Lee Po Min.

According to US geological Survey, the center of earthquake is 19 kilometers away from Tainan  city of Southern Taiwan. According to chineses news media around thirty people were reported to have been rescued from four buildings that had collapsed.

“Four buildings have collapsed in Tainan City area. Search and rescue is underway and no casualties have been reported at this moment,” Lin Kuang-cheng, a spokesman for the National Fire Agency said.
