RAWALPINDI : The Punjab government has completed capacity building training of 40,000 teachers in the province and it is hoped that new lot of teachers would help improve the overall quality of public sector schooling because of their good academic qualifications and professional training imparted to them.

Chairman, Standing Committee on Education in the Punjab Assembly, Engineer Qamar ul Islam Raja said this while addressing the concluding ceremonies of two different teachers’ training programs held at Government Teachers Training College and Govt MC High School in Rawalpindi on Saturday. The functions were  organized by the school education department.

Addressing the functions, he said that teachers’ trainings are very much pivotal in providing good quality education to the students to transform them as nation-builders of tomorrow. It also helps in providing child-friendly schooling to the students as corporal punishment is strictly prohibited in all the schools.  He expressed satisfaction that over 130,000 teachers were recruited in Punjab in recent years purely on merit, adding that this has forced other provinces including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to follow suit.

Qamar ul Islam, who is also the Chairman of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) which provides free education to the needy students up to matric level said that 1.6 million deserving students are getting free quality education through 4000 PEF partner schools in the province and more than  1500 private schools will also be made partner during this year alone. Later, he distributed certificates to the teachers showing good performance.
