ISLAMABAD: An American delegation of Cultural Heritage Programme visited National Book Foundation (NBF) and appreciated its work, bookshop and book museum.

The delegation comprising Cultural Heritage Programme Manager Dr Laura Tedesco, Archaeologist and Cultural Heritage Program Manger from the US Embassy was also briefed about the aims, role and working of the NBF.

Managing Director, NBF, Prof. Dr.Inam-ul- Haq Javeid briefed the delegation. He explained that how it the NBF is working and playing its vital role in developing and promoting the Book Culture among people.

“The old books are reviewing and new ideas and thoughts are publishing day by day in a way to promote book reading habit among people with a fast pace, he said.

Now the books published and republishing are going throughout the country. Book fairs and book galas are being organized in every city for promotion of book culture in the country.  He said text books are being published as per international standard for the educational institutions of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) well in time.

University books are also delivered in Pakistan and abroad as well.  Literature and Literary books are also being published and national authors are encouraged to promote their work in the field of literature of Urdu, English and others foreign languages.

“NBF is now putting its efforts in translation of literary works of other languages into Urdu in order to promote literary culture of others,” he expressed.

American culture is a well-known and popular among others cultures and people are showing their interest in reading their literary cultural works.  Therefore NBF has a plan to publish translations of American literature into Urdu and the delegation appreciated this novel idea.

They took keen interest in all policies and planning of NBF. They also assured their cooperation in promotion of Book Culture in Pakistan.
