Deborah LaVeglia is director of PoetsWednesday (the longest running poetry series in NJ) which runs out of the Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge. She has an MA in Poetics from NYU. She has worked in schools as a visiting poet and has had residencies in the Scotchwood school district of Scotch Plains & Fanwood, as well as in Cranford, and Bound Brook. Deborah founded and directed the poetry program at St. Michael’s School in Cranford for grades K-8. She has been published in many poetry journals and anthologies including Tiferet, Lips, Negative Capability, ELR, PLR, Big Hammer, Poets of the Palisades Anthology, Ragazine & Big Hammer. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2008.
Deborah is also creator of the annual Woodbridge Township High School Slam Competition. Her awards and honors include the Mayor’s Proclamation from the Township of Woodbridge, first place award for poetry in the Fanny Wood Poetry Competition, Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and various honorable mentions. She has published a chapbook entitled Vigil and hopes to have a second chapbook completed soon.
Hank Kalet is a poet and journalist living in South Brunswick, NJ. He is the author of the chapbook Certainties and Uncertainties, and the forthcoming Stealing Copper, both from Finishing Line Press. His book-length poem, As an Alien in a Land of Promise, a collaboration with photographer Sherry Rubel, is due this fall from Piscataway House Press. His poetry and prose have been published in the Progressive, In These Times, Main Street Rag, The Idiom, The Aquarian Weekly, Big Hammer, Big Scream, the Journal of New Jersey Poets, City Belt, The Higginsville Reader, The River Poets Presents, The Writer’s Gallery, Middlesex: A Literary Journal, Flux, The Other Half, Potomac, Pop Transit, Pop Matters, The Subterranean, and numerous other publications.
Kalet teaches journalism at Rutgers and writing at Middlesex County College and writes regularly for NJ Spotlight and The Progressive Populist and is the author of the blog Channel Surfing (www.kaletblog.com).
