Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted the people on the occasions of Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu and said that the country’s diversity is its greatest strength.

Mr Modi in a series of tweets said, “Today people across India are celebrating various festivals. My greetings to everyone celebrating these auspicious festivals!” “Makar Sankranti greetings. May this day bring joy & prosperity in everyone’s lives. Wishing my Tamil friends a happy & blessed Pongal. On the special occasion of Magh Bihu, my greetings to the people of Assam. Uttarayan greetings to the people of Gujarat”. “These & many other festivals celebrated across India add great colour & happiness in our lives.

This diversity is India’s greatest strength. May these festivals bring abundance of happiness and prosperity in the lives of our hardworking farmers,” Mr Modi said. Meanwhile, several Union Ministers, including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar too have greeted the people on various festivals being celebrated across the country today. Mr Singh in his tweet said, “My warm greetings to you and your family members on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Magh Bihu and Uttarayan”.

Mr Javadekar tweeted, “My greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, Pongal. They represent rich cultural heritage of our country. Textiles Minister Smriti Irani in her tweet said, “On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, may Surya Dev brighten our lives & bless us with good health and prosperity”.

Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, “Makar Sakranti, Pongal & Bihu greetings to all. As the Sun transits into Makara, may all ur lives transit into a phase of peace & prosperity”.
