They may have found fame from their respective Real Housewives series, but Bethenny Frankel is refusing support fellow Bravo star Teresa Giudice, who recently had been indicted on 39 charges of fraud.
While promoting her self-titled daytime talk show at a TCA tour panel this Wednesday, the former Real Housewives of New York City star expressed her true feelings towards Guidice, telling the press that she doesn’t feel sorry for them for landing in legal hot water.
“My first thought today was, ‘Oh, if they weren’t on reality TV, none of this would probably ever be exposed.’ And it’s just funny how certain people are [like a] moth to a flame,” she said, according to Us Weekly. “It’s almost like — not that you want to get caught — but people who love to be in the spotlight often have a lot of skeletons in their closet. It’s just an interesting thing.”
“I haven’t paid that much attention,” the Skinny Girl founder said of Giudice’s problems. “Do I feel sorry for them? No, I don’t. Not so much, because it broke the law. You broke the law and you went on television. That’s not really that smart.”
Giudice and her husband, Joe, reportedly provided false information to illegally secure loans and mortgages from the bank. The couple also allegedly failed to disclosed their actual assets — including Teresa’s earnings from The Real Housewives of New Jersey — when they couple filed for bankruptcy in 2009.
Joe has also been accused of not filing tax returns from 2004 to 2008.
On July 30, the couple were each released on $500,00 bail and both are expected back in court August 14. The two have entered a plea of not guilty and Teresa asserted her innocence in a statement to Celebuzz, saying: “I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the Government as quickly as possible.”
If guilty, the couple face a maximum of 50 years in prison. Joe’s attorney Miles Feinstein tells us the Giudice patriarch, who is not a U.S. citizen unlike his wife, could also be facing deportation if found guilty.
