Ben Affleck (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Argo, The Town) appeared on Bill Simmons’ new HBO television talk show, Any Given Wednesday, this week and he definitely made the show…interesting to watch.

Ranting about Deflategate and Tom Brady, an obviously intoxicated Affleck cursed and slurred his way through a 5-minute interview that led the conversation from the National Football League to Star Wars.

After the host of the new show, sportswriter Bill Simmons asked Ben a simple question about what he thought about the scandal involving Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, the movie star launched into an all-out tirade against Brady’s suspension and the NFL in general. With an irregularly bloated and flushed face, Affleck tore the football organization a new one before insinuating that he might have turned down the opportunity to direct Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens before J.J. Abrams was offered the job:

Bill: So were you offered to work on Star Wars?

Ben: Well, it wouldn’t be polite to talk about the jobs I’ve turned down but I had a lot of offers…that’s when you have to sit back and see that there is a fork in the road between two paths. Two legitimately different paths. I mean, whether I do Batman or…or this other iconic thing, my life will be very different than what it is now.

Now, that quote was simplified and most of the “umm’s” and “ugh’s” were taken out but what Ben Affleck is saying seems to be pretty clear.

After an excruciatingly long time for anyone to be on camera, Affleck finally departs the show’s stage. One thing that’s for sure is that even if Any Given Wednesday doesn’t do well in the ratings, it will be forever remembered as “that one show Ben Affleck showed up drunk to.”
