Well, that didn’t last long. Famed movie star (and bracelet enthusiast) Johnny Depp got handed divorce papers recently by his much-younger wife, Amber Heard. After getting married in a quiet ceremony in February of 2015, Heard has now filed for a divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for the split. Now, Depp’s lawyer is contesting Heard’s claim to spousal support, that when involving someone worth as much as Johnny, could amount to millions and millions of dollars a year.
Celebrity divorces are a dime a dozen, but this one carries a particular sting for the Pirates of the Caribbean star as his mother, who he recently moved into his massive California compound, died just three days ago. Sources close to the couple say that his mother, Betty Sue, actually had quite a bit to do with the split that has opened between the couple. Alongside Depp’s two teenage children, Betty Sue reportedly hated Heard and considered her to only be interested in Depp for his money and his ability to further her own acting career.
According to Heard’s legal representation, as there was no prenuptial agreement, she is entitled to a portion of the Depp estate and monetary support beyond that for a yet-to-be-determined length of time.
The last time we really heard from Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, they were making an incredibly awkward apology video to the Australian government for their part in attempting to smuggle their dogs into the country. Now it seems like we’ll be seeing less of the two together and more of their lawyers in court. Sorry, Johnny! You know what they say. Don’t ever marry that girl from Never Back Down who is also 25+ years your junior…or something along those lines.
