GitLab, a developer of open-source software for developers, got $20M Series B funding from Y Combinator, August Capital and Khosla Ventures.
GitLab was co-founded by Dmitry Zaporozhets from Kharkiv, Ukraine,
together with Sid Sijbrandij, from the Netherlands. It is one of the most popular open source code collaboration platforms, and a strong competitor of GitHub. The company is working on the solution that unifies chat, issue tracking, code reviews, activity streams, wikis, Continuous integration and Continuous deployment into a single
UI. This enables users to collaborate on all digital content with more effectiveness.
More than 100,000 organizations use GitLab worldwide, among them NASA, CERN, IBM, Alibaba, SpaceX, Sony, Nasdaq, Intel, Macy’s. The company has hosted over 1,000,000 projects so far.
In July 2015 the startup received $1,5M from Ashton Kutcher, 500 Startups and a number of venture funds. Last September GitLab got $4M Series A investment round from Khosla Ventures.
Now GitLab offers three products:
Community Edition – an opensource core platform which features Git repository management,code reviews, wikis and more, and comes with GitLab CI (https://about.gitlab.com/gitlab-ci/) for continuous integration and delivery;
GitLab.com – a SaaS offer which provides free public and private repositories and unlimited collaborators;
GitLab Enterprise Edition – a premium edition which includes extra features mainly aimed at organizations with more than 100 users. Enterprise Edition gives the administrator user management capabilities without imposing on developers’ workflows.
