Melania Trump has threatened to sue the Daily Mail and a bunch of other news outlets according to her lawyer.

Melania Trump, wife of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump has threatened to sue The Daily Mail and other news outlets ” for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an ‘escort’ in the 1990s,” Charles Harder, a lawyer representing Trump said in a statement.

Charles Harder confirmed that notices had been sent to the organizations regarding their reporting on Melania Trump’s immigration history. Politico, one of those organizations confirmed its reporters had received notices. The notices came three days after The Daily Mail published a report citing a story in a Slovenian Magazine that claimed a New York modeling agency that once represented Mrs Trump was also an escort service for wealthy clients. A report that was then picked up or referenced by other news outlets.

The outlets that have been sent notices include The Daily Mail, Politico, Liberal America, LawNewz, The Week, Inquisitr, Tarpley, Winning Democrats, Bipartisan Report and Before Its News. Charles Harder, who also represented Hulk Hogan in his battle against Gawker media last year confirmed that all notices sent should be interpreted as a threat to sue. However, until lawsuits are filed the notices function as warnings to the accused parties to either retract the story or issue a correction. Both Inquisitr and Bipartisan Report published retractions and apologies for citing The Daily Mail report, The Daily Mail and The Week have not yet commented on notices

Legal experts sat The Daily Mail is more vulnerable to the charges because its based in the United Kingdom, libel laws there tend to favor the plaintiff unlike in the United States. in the US, Trump has to prove that the statement made is false while in the UK the burden to prove the authenticity of the statement would be on The Daily Mail.
