It is finally official, Luke Cage has a premiere date on Netflix. According to Mike Colter who portrays the titular character, revealed the date that his series will begin streaming its first season during the premiere of Daredevil‘s second season in New York City, which took place on March 10, 2016. In a report from IGN, it would seem that the actor offered up the premiere date for his own series while answering some questions on the red carpet.

Mike Colter reveals the Luke Cage premiere date while at Daredevil premiere in New York City

This is not the first time that Mike Colter has spoken about the upcoming Luke Cage series recently. During the Television Critics’ Association winter press tour, the actor actually made it a point to say that his show will not feel like a sequel to the show his character originated on, Jessica Jones. At the time of the press tour, Colter made it clear that with Luke Cage this is not a spinoff or as he said a sequel. Instead, he said that what they are priding themselves on is offering all of these Marvel shows as unique entities. Just as Jessica Jones was separate from Daredevil, so too will Luke Cage be, as well as the upcoming Iron Fist.

When Colter spoke about the show, he also made it clear that while a small period of time will have elapsed from his time on Jessica Jones, that does not mean the show forgets that those events happened. Luke is going to find himself going uptown and really doing his own thing, which will be featured in the show. According to the actor, what he enjoyed about Jessica Jones was that he was not the central figure, so he could be there without being the focus of the story.

While Colter’s Luke Cage may not have been a part of Daredevil, that does not mean it may not happen at some point, especially once the four heroes come together down the road for The Defenders. However, in the meantime fans of this group of Marvel heroes can catch the second season of Daredevil on Netflix when it starts streaming on March 18, 2016. Plus, as Mike Colter revealed at the premiere in New York City, Luke Cage himself will hit the streaming service as of Sept. 30, 2016. Currently, fans of the character can catch him in the first season of Jessica Jones which is streaming now on Netflix, along with the first season of Daredevil.
