Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show guests on Monday, November 16, were actress Cate Blanchett, who stars in the upcoming movie, Carol, and actor Anthony Mackie, from the TV series, Love the Coopers. He also stars with Seth Rogen in the upcoming movie, The Night Before. Fallon later played a game of Lip Flip with Blanchett. See the hysterical video below! The musical guest of the episode was Tinashe, and musical artist John Pizzarelli sat in with The Roots.
Jimmy Fallon began the Tonight Show by walking onto the stage and getting a standing ovation from the studio audience. He welcomed them and then did his monologue, cracking jokes about a variety of topics, like the Democratic debates. “Unlike the Rhonda Rousey fight, a woman knocked out two of her opponents.”
On social media, Bernie Sanders was the most-talked about. Bernie Sanders is reported to have won the debate. “Things got pretty heated at times. Governor Martin O’Malley saved his biggest insult for Donald Trump,” Fallon said. He played the clip in which O’Malley called Trump “an immigrant-bashing carnival barker.”
“Guy’s we’re a week-and-a-half away from Thanksgiving. Fallon said that the Butterball Turkey Hotline revealed some of their weirdest questions. One was “How can you make a turkey look like it has tan lines, like it has been wearing a bikini?”
Fallon said, “The man who invented Ibuprofen tested it out on himself when he got a headache. The man who invented Viagra unfortunately took it before he gave a speech at a wedding.”
John Pizzarelli, sitting in with The Roots, sang the Paul McCartney song, Let ‘Em In, with the lines “Someone’s knocking on the door/Someone’s ringing the bell.” His new album is called, Midnight McCartney, and features all McCartney songs.
Then, Jimmy Fallon paid respect and homage to the victims of Paris, France. He said that the kernel of hatred turned into one of love. He said that the people of France are “living their lives without fear.” He said that they are going out to restaurants still, and movies, and are showing that the acts of terror will not stop them from living their lives.
Jimmy Fallon then mentioned some upcoming guests, and said that Cate Blanchett will be on, talking about her movie, Carol, and they will play a game of Lip Flip. The second guest will be Anthony Mackie, from Loving the Coopers, and the musical guest will be Tinashe.
Fallon next did his comedy bit, In Reply To. “It’s the third one, and in many respects, the saddest to watch,” was referring to Jeb Bush. One from CBS was, “You can get all your Christmas gifts from CBS.” That was in reply to, “How can I disappoint my wife, kids, and friends?”
“I’m half Jewish,” was from Drake, in reply to, “The reason why I can’t dance.” One from Bobby Jindel was, “My wife and my children, every single day.” That was in response to, “Has anybody ever told you to drop out of the race?”
Next on the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon introduced actress Cate Blanchett. “I never met you before,” Fallon told her. He thought that she was about to hand him gum that had been in her mouth. She said that she “had been eating raw onions.”
Blanchett thanked Fallon for having sent her a $5.00 voucher for a Subway sandwich after she won an Oscar. She said that it did not even get her an entire sandwich.
“Five dollars didn’t get you a sandwich?” he asked her.
She said, “No, just a part of a sandwich. So, put my mint in your mouth.” Fallon did that, and said that it still tasted like onions. He kept it in his mouth. Blanchett seemed to want the mint back but Fallon said, “Trust me, you don’t want it back.”
Fallon asked her if she was from Texas, and she said that she was. Blanchett talked with Fallon about his two daughters, and she loved it that one of Fallon’s daughters was called Winnie. She related that her first job had been at a nursing home, and there was a woman there called Winifred, who “wet herself.”
Now, Blanchett said, she lives in Australia. They talked about her still celebrating Thanksgiving, there, though hardly anyone else did. Fallon showed a photo of Blanchett with a fishbowl on her head. She told him it was “hard to breathe in there.”
They then talked about the movie, Carol. It is about a same-sex relationship in the 1950s, when such things were frowned upon. Fallon showed a clip from the movie, when they first met. “Now that we’ve spent some time together,” Fallon said, “I feel really connected. I’ll show just how connected when we play the game Lip Flip after more commercials.” Pizzarelli sang one of McCartney’s big hits, Silly Love Songs.
Jimmy Fallon Flips Lips With Actress Cate Blanchett on Tonight Show
Next on the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and Cate Blanchett played the game, Lip Flip. It was not exactly a game, with a winner or a loser, though. Instead, their lips got placed on each others’ faces.
Blanchett told Fallon, “I would like to interview me,” and that was when they flipped lips. Fallon had Blanchett saying, “I’m Cate Blanket.”
Blanchett’s lips on Fallon’s face were pretty hilarious, also. She tried to impersonate Elvis, singing, “One for the money, two for the show.”
Fallon then talked for Blanchett, saying, “This is my real voice.” Then, Blanchett had Fallon burp, and talk about “kicking back with some Brewskis.” Blanchett cracked up.
At the end of the bit, they sang a duet of the song, Reunited. It was one of the best Lip Flips yet! Check out the video, below!
Jimmy Fallon introduced his second guest of the show, actor Anthony Mackie, from the TV series, Loving the Coopers. He also stars with Seth Rogen in the upcoming movie, The Night Before.
Mackie told Fallon that he maybe should not mess with NFL football players so much, because they are bigger than he is, and might beat him up. Mackie said he was a “Saints fan,” and Fallon told Mackie he had one of the shirts he invented for him, that show off the team a person loves under the arms, when a person raises his/her arms.
Mackie said he had been sitting in front of nuns at a Saints games, thinking that they were fake nuns. There were “three drunk Popes,” he said, also. He shouted out loud, and even kissed the nuns, not realizing that they were real nuns. The next game, he said that they asked for his seat to be moved away from theirs.
Mackie talked about the movie, The Night Before, then. Fallon asked Mackie to sing the Billy Ocean song about Night on the Run, called Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run). Fallon showed a clip from the movie. Mackie talks with a woman who admits she stole his weed.
As they are talking, she is actually stealing money from him. She says, “Oh, my God! You are so easy!” as she runs off.
Next on the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon introduced his musical guest of the episode, Tinashe, who sang the song, Player, from the album, Joyride, due out in December. She did a fantastic choreographed dance as she sang, and her backup dancers were also terrific. Tinashe wowed the audience with her soaring vocals and great lyrics, bringing this episode of the Tonight Show to an end.
