There will be more than 100 student-run business booths with all sorts of items for sale during the eighth grade’s first-ever Risky Business Trade Show 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Midlothian Middle cafeteria. Students chose either a proprietorship or partnership and conducted a market survey to figure out what types of items they should produce and how much they should charge for their products. Money earned at the trade show will be donated to the American Cancer Society and Humanity Helping Sudan Project.

Elizabeth Scott Elementary has challenged students to read at least 20 minutes a night. Students are graphing their minutes at school and at each milestone (500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 minutes), they receive a special bracelet and schoolwide recognition.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school health and fitness program sponsored by the NFL and the National Dairy Council. The James Farrior Foundation also supports Chesterfield schools involved with Fuel Up to Play 60. This year, six elementary schools in Chesterfield County — Hopkins, Jacobs Road, Davis, Crestwood, Matoaca and Spring Run — are piloting something new for this national program: collecting student data to see how Fuel Up to Play 60 improves health and fitness throughout the school year.
