The second leg of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Series 2013, organised by FOX International Channels Asia and broadcast on STAR Sports, will be held on September 1 at Speed City Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian charge will be led by the Formula Drift Asia 2010 Champion, Tengku Djan Ley, who also won the 1st Runner-up title for the Asia series last year.

“I’m very excited to get back on the track to represent Malaysia and hopefully win a title on my home ground.

On September 1, I truly hope fans will come together to support the local drivers as we will definitely put on a good show for the crowd," he said.

This year, he will be joined by local aces; Ser Ming Hui, Mervyn Nakamura, Tan Tat Wei and Loyai, all of whom are determined to do Malaysia proud on their home turf, seeking to topple the reigning global champion, Japanese drifter Daigo ‘The Ninja’ Saito from the podium.

Daigo has already set the pace with a strong victory at the season opener in Australia earlier this year, but will be facing strong competition at the Malaysian leg with the likes of Robert Whyte, Tom Monkhouse and Josh Boettcher of Australia, Daynom Templeman of New Zealand, The Norwegian Hammer Fredric Aasbo, Japanese countryman Robbie Nishida as well as the return of Formula Drift USA superstar Ken Gushi.

This year’s Malaysia edition will see the most diverse and biggest pool of drivers for 2013 with top pros from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, USA and Japan taking part in the race.

For Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia, a pool of 32 drivers will be battling it out for a coveted spot in the Top 16 tandem battles.

To add to the excitement this year, a new category will be introduced - the night Team Drift category - which will see drivers pairing up with partners of their choice in a special synchronised tandem drift challenge.

Fans will get to see the top drifters in action at twilight for the first time in the event, which will serve as the closing finale of Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia.

Senior director of sales from Fox Sports Event Management said that motorsports races never fail to excite fans, and every leg of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Series will bring something new to the board that will keep fans returning for more.

"For Malaysia this year, I am certain that the night Team Drift competition will add another fascinating dimension to the existing event format which Formula Drift fans can get behind their favourite drivers,” he said.

President director of the title sponsor for the event, PT. Multistrada Arah Sarana Tbk, Pieter Tanuri, said fans can look forward to non-stop drifting action in the second leg as competition heats up with drivers all vying for vital championship points in the lead-up to the series finale which will be held later this year in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"Since our inaugural season in 2011, Formula Drift Malaysia has continued to grow with a strong global presence with a stellar line-up of world-class drifters from all across Asia and around the world, making Achilles Formula Drift Asia the largest professional drift event in the region,” he said.

Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia 2013 will be broadcasted live on STAR Sports on Sunday, September 1 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, with ticketing details to be announced soon.
