NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Angry Birds has experienced unparalleled success. It’s the most downloaded app of all time and was recently turned into a big screen film. Now, the video game franchise is helping to inspire kids to get moving.
In celebration of The Angry Birds Movie’s release on Blu-ray™, DVD and digital, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) has teamed up with The American Heart Association (AHA) for the launch of the “Angry Birds, Happy Bodies” fitness initiative, designed to get kids moving and having fun while being active. Angry Birds, Happy Bodies recently kicked off with fun events for kids coast to coast.
The initiative’s goal is to encourage school-aged kids to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, as recommended by the AHA, and to make physical activity fun for the whole family. It also supports #ProtectPE, the AHA’s initiative to help kids get active and healthy for life by ensuring all students receive quality physical education at their school. Only four percent of elementary, eight percent of middle and two percent of high schools provide daily PE or its equivalent for the entire year.
CT Style Reporter Meghan Yost recently spoke to John Cohen, the producer of The Angry Birds Movie, about working with the star-studded cast that included actors like Maya Rudolph and Jason Sudeikis. Cohen, who’s young daughter Samantha lended her voice to one of the Hatchlings in the film, also spoke about the importance of instilling healthy habits in children.
