PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Shelby County’s Hispanic population is growing so much that Spanish is now being spoken at the Pelham Public Library. A free bilingual story time for preschoolers was held at the library Tuesday.

Since Pelham has such a large Hispanic population and so many of the families visit the library, story time organizers thought it would be a great idea for everyone.

“We want to reach out to everyone in our community and have things that are vital to each aspect of our community,” said Mary Campbell, the youth services coordinator.

The Pelham Public Library has hosted a bilingual story time once a month since January. Tuesday’s session was the last of its kind for now, though.
