PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A local organization makes it as easy as pie to help those in need.

Thursday was Pie Day in Philadelphia, as the non-profit organization Manna makes a push to sell 8,500 pies during the holiday season.

“Funds raised through Pie in the Sky enable Manna to provide a delicious, traditional, hot thanksgiving meal to a Manna client and their family,” said Mayor Jim Kenney.

Pies being sold include apple, pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan, and Mayor Jim Kenney’s favorite, which is a variation cheesecake pie with caramel, chocolate, and walnuts.

“American Airlines sky pie, which is awesome,” Kenney said.

Manna’s Laura Payne says for the last 20 years, they’ve had this pie sale and it gets bigger every time.

“Pie in the Sky is our largest annual fundraiser, both financially as well as it’s amazing how many volunteers get involved. So the volunteers bake the pies, our volunteers sell the pies, our volunteers distribute the pies, help us market the pies. So it’s great that the whole manna family gets involved,” said Payne.

Pies are being sold until November 18th and will be available for pickup right before Thanksgiving.
