Although the famous golf competition is contested between Europe and the USA, some bending of the rules was required here as a Europe vs Rest of the World clash would surely make for more enthralling viewing in the footballing world.

With some impossible selection decisions on both sides, see below for the players selected in each position for both insanely good-looking lineups.

Europe XI:

GK: Manuel Neuer

The Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper is surely the best in the world in his position at the moment, and gets in here ahead of other big names such as Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and the evergreen Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus.

DR: Philipp Lahm

Another world class player from Bayern, club captain Philipp Lahm seems the sensible choice at right-back after his superb performances for club and country in recent times, with Champions League and World Cup victories to boast in the last two years.

DL: David Alaba

Yet another player on the books at Bayern Munich, Austrian youngster David Alaba looks a world class left-back in the making and already seems the outstanding choice to start in this position.

DC: Mats Hummels

One of the best centre-backs in the world, Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund and World Cup winners Germany looks a shoe-in here following his superb form over the last few years.

DC: Sergio Ramos

Completing the back four, Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos is one you'd want in your squad after his recent success for club and country, having featured for the Spaniards in each of their three recent major tournament victories. Also a scorer for Real in last season's Champions League final victory.

MC: Sergio Busquets

Not the most popular player by any means, but Barcelona and Spain midfielder Sergio Busquets is an expert at the defensive midfield role and has to be a starter here given his immense collection of winners' medals already in his career.

MC: Cesc Fabregas

One of the best creative midfield players in the world, Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas is another Spaniard in the squad, and should shine in this superb XI.

AMR: Gareth Bale

A player who has proven himself to be world class in the last few years or so, Welsh winger Gareth Bale gets in on the right-hand side here after his superb performances for Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur before them.

AML: Cristiano Ronaldo

On the opposite flank, Bale's Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious choice for one of the attacking midfield spots. Capable of scoring from anywhere, the Portuguese international is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world and one of the finest in the modern era.

AMC: Thomas Muller

A world class goalscorer, German forward Thomas Muller takes up a role just behind the main striker here, having shone in this position for Bayern Munich and Germany in extremely successful recent periods for both teams.

FC: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

An utterly brilliant player to watch, Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic flies the flag for Sweden here, taking the place upfront ahead of other big names such as Chelsea's Spanish centre-forward Diego Costa and Real Madrid's French finisher Karim Benzema.

Rest of the World XI:

GK: Tim Howard

Outstanding for the USA in the World Cup this summer, Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard makes a strong case for being number one for the Rest of the World XI.

DR: Pablo Zabaleta

Manchester City and Argentina's outstanding right-back, Pablo Zabaleta looks undisputed first choice here after his superb performances for club and country in recent years, playing a key part in City's domestic success.

DL: Marcelo

An outstanding attack-minded left-back for Real Madrid and Brazil, Marcelo looks the best bet at left-back of this Rest of the World XI.

DC: Mehdi Benatia

Having recently earned a big move to Bayern Munich, Moroccan centre-back Mehdi Benatia established himself as one of the most solid centre-backs in the world with AS Roma last season.

DC: Diego Godin

Atletico Madrid's inspirational defensive leader, Uruguayan centre half Diego Godin has been immense of late and is known for popping up for the occasional important goal, netting Atletico's title-winning goal last season as well as in the Champions League final and a key goal for his country against Italy at the World Cup.

MC: Arturo Vidal

An outstanding all-round midfield player, Juventus and Chile star Arturo Vidal deserves a spot here ahead of some fierce competition, having reached world class quality for club and country in recent times.

MC: Yaya Toure

Although not at his best at the moment, there's no doubt the incredible ability of Manchester City star and Ivory Coast international midfielder Yaya Toure, who is a superbly powerful and skillful player in equal measure.

AMR: Luis Suarez

Not his best position, but one he has played in before, Luis Suarez earns a place on the right-hand side of a superb-looking attacking four which is still without some incredibly big names. The Uruguayan is yet to make his debut for his new club Barcelona, but was the best player in the Premier League last season for Liverpool.

AML: Angel Di Maria

Manchester United's new signing in a club-record deal, Argentine winger Angel Di Maria takes a spot on the left-hand side here and gets in ahead of Colombian attacker James Rodriguez, who replaced him at the Bernabeu this summer in an unwise transfer move from the Spanish giants.

AMC: Lionel Messi

Playing just off the main striker, Lionel Messi is the easiest pick of the lot as the Barcelona and Argentina star has perhaps made himself the best player in the history of the game in recent years.

FC: Radamel Falcao

Leading the line is Manchester United and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao, who beats other big names such as Neymar (Brazi), Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) as well as fellow countryman Jackson Martinez for the single spot upfront.
