Alberto Moreno (Sevilla)

Left back has been a problem area at Anfield for some time now, and this season manager Brendan Rodgers has been forced to utilise a number of different players in the role, including both right-backs Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan.

And while neither of those two Englishman have let the Northern Irishman down, Rodgers would prefer to play them in their natural slots, and as result, will definitely be on the lookout for a new left back come the summer.

However, Rodgers should look no further than Sevilla's highly rated young Spain international to fill the void given the excellent campaign the 21-year-old has had in Southern Spain so far this season, with his eye-catching technique and ability to bomb forward skills that would be welcomed on Merseyside.

Victor Valdes (FC Barcelona)

While the Reds may have only just splashed out £9m in order to lure Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to Anfield last summer to take over from the Napoli-bound Jose Manuel Reina, it is fair to say that the Belgium international has hardly proved to be an improvement on the Spaniard between the sticks.

In fact, the shot stopper's mistakes so far have proved pretty costly to the club's hopes of winning a first-ever Premier League title, and a first top-flight crown since 1990, which is why Rodgers should now waste little time in bringing a new keeper to Merseyside this summer so as to take the club on to the next level.

And with the experienced Spain international leaving Camp Nou on a free transfer at the end of the season, then Rodgers should try to move heaven and earth to land the 32-year-old.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)

Centre back is another area of the pitch that the Reds have had issues at so far in this campaign, with Rodgers's side having let in far too many goals at present to be considered a truly world-class team.

But despite the Northern Irishman having forked out a whopping £19m in order to sign Paris Saint-Germain central defender Mamadou Sakho on transfer deadline day last September, one feels that the addition of one more top-quality centre back is needed this summer in order to move the Reds up another level.

And with Tottenham's Belgium international having already made it clear he intends to quit White Hart Lane at the end of the campaign if the north London club fail to finish in the top four of the Premier League, and with it qualify for the Uefa Champions League, then Rodgers should attempt to beat the likes of FC Barcelona to the versatile defender's signature.

Adam Lallana (Southampton)

Yes the Merseysiders have been scoring goals by the bucketload so far this season, however, the majority of those have come from front men Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, and less from the players operating in the midfield positions.

And with veteran skipper Steven Gerrard also not getting any younger, this summer would be the right time to make a move for the young Saints playmaker who himself is enjoying an eye-catching campaign for the south coast club.

And with Lallana on one flank and Raheem Sterling on the other, goals and assists from midfield would not be hard to find at Anfield next season.

Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

The Reds actually tried to land the red-hot Brazil-born attacker last summer when they met the full value of the striker's big-money release clause in his contract at the Vicente Calderon, only for the player himself to then reject the chance to move to Merseyside.

However, with Atleti now expected to offload the Spain international at the end of the campaign in order to help balance the books in the Spanish capital, Liverpool should not waste any time in returning to the La Liga giants with another offer for the attacker whose arrival at the club would immediately transform Liverpool into a force to be reckoned with throughout Europe.
