Emirates Stadium boss ready to swing the axe.

Check-In to Norwich City v Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has been buoyed by the financial backing he has been handed by his Emirates Stadium board but will be asked to trim his Gunners squad of dead-weights in order to further boost transfer funds as the Arsenal boss considers significant moves in the January transfer window.

Though Wenger is not known as a profligate user of the winter transfer window he knows that this campaign is crucial and will look to bring in new additions that can strengthen his squad whilst simultaneously give him the push to offload those players who here has no use for.

Andrei Arshavin

Andrei Arshavin did not join Arsenal on their Asian tour and that appears to have signaled the death knell to the Russian's Arsenal career and thus far the winger has played just 13 minutes of Premier League football this term.

A number of Premier League sides are said to be keen on the 31 year old who may well elect to stay in the Premier League given that his family have settled in England.

Following an impressive Euro 2008 Arshavin was touted as one of the best players in Europe but his three and a half years at Arsenal have seen more lows than highs, though his four goal haul at Anfield will long be remembered.

Sebastien Squillaci

Wenger has been attempting to sell Sebastien Squillaci for the best part of a year, such has been his disastrous spell at the Emirates Stadium.

The veteran defender has looked off the pace and out of his depth, and Wenger would surely be keen to sell the French international for next to nothing.

As yet there appear to be no takers and Arsene Wenger could well be willing to release the player on a free transfer in order to speed up the removal of his salary from the club's balance sheet.

Marouane Chamakh

Marouane Chamakh has managed just one Premier League goal in 18 months and as such the Moroccan will be made available to prospective interested parties.

The former Bordeaux man cost Arsenal nothing when he arrived in the summer of 2010 but Wenger is keen to rid the club of his reported £60k a week salary. As yet no concrete offers have been made for the 28 year old but there is speculation that a number of Ligue 1 sides are ready to register their interest.

Chamakh has not played a single minute of Premier League football this term.

Johan Djourou

Though a hard worker it's become abundantly clear that the big Swiss international is not of sufficient quality for a side pushing for major honours. Though Arsenal do not possess a great many central defensive options beyond first team trio Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny, Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a more able player to help add strength in depth and as such is ready to listen to offers for the 25 year old.

Djourou has also not played a single minute of Premier League football and is unlikely to be happy with the occasional League Cup run-out at this stage of his career.

Lukasz Fabianski

The Pole is currently sidelined with injury but even when fully fit he has struggled for form and made too many basic errors and that fact coupled with the huge improvement shown by Italian Vito Mannone mean that Arsene Wenger has little use for the 27 year old.

Wojciech Szczesny and Mannone are thought to now be solid first team options and the Arsenal boss is looking to blood youngster Damien Martinez and will therefore look to sell Fabianski as soon as possible.

Sanchez Watt

Arsene Wenger has a good track record of making the most of young talent but it does seem that Sanchez Watt has missed the boat.

It is now fully three years since the young attacker was named on the bench for the Champions League encounter with Standard Liege and the 21 year old has still not played a single minute of Premier League football indeed the last time he played for the Gunners first team was back in December 2009.

Wenger will now look to push the youngster into a move with a host of Championship sides said to be interested in the attacker.

Theo Walcott/Bacary Sagna

The final player/s on a list of reported outgoings could be filled by either of the pair above. Both players are going through contractual issues with the North London club and arguably Arsene Wenger already has talented replacements for both players and can therefore afford to dictate terms.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has publicly stated that he has no intentions of breaking the club's wage ceiling and therefore put paid to 23 year old winger Theo Walcott's hopes of a huge pay rise and now the ball is very much back in the attacker's court.

He had apparently also had issues relating to the position he occupies in Wenger's formation and this too could prove an insurmountable issue for Arsenal to agree too.

Bacary Sagna publicly stated his dissatisfaction with the sale of Alex Song over the summer and has now seen youngster Carl Jenkinson perform heroically whilst the French international has been recovering from a broken leg. Therefore either player could be set for a departure and the sale of either player would bring in a decent sum that could be Arsenal fans would hope would be ploughed back into squad re-building rather than used to line the board's pockets.
