**Description:**

Serves as the Nurse Executive and is responsible for patient care services provided by the Nursing, Surgical , and Emergency Departments. Major areas of responsibility include the provision of continuous innovative and timely quality care, approval and establishment of standards of care and standards of practice and congruent policies and procedures, development of human resources, establishment of budgets, control of expenses, quality improvement and risk management activities. Assists the Director of Operations in the formulation of hospital-wide objectives and policies. Reports to the Director of Operations at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville and matrixed to the Chief Nursing Officer of KentuckyOne.

*I. Essential Functions*

* Ensures the formulation of objectives, plans, and programs for the Nursing Services departments, integrating those with overall hospital objectives and plans. Plays an active role in case management and utilization review initiatives. Identifies opportunities for the development of new services and serves to guide the initiation of the services.
* Participates with governance, managerial, medical staff and clinical leaders in decision-making. Attends Advisory Board and Medical Executive Committee Meetings. Is the Chief Nurse Executive at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.
* Positively contributes to the financial viability of the hospital. Monitors and evaluates productivity at regular intervals and makes changes as necessary to achieve productivity goals.
* Monitors actual department performance in the following areas: patient care, patient satisfaction, team member performance, attendance, retention, staffing, budget, team member development, leadership development, physician relations, and interdepartmental relations.
* Oversees the recruitment, development, and retention of qualified staff for all Clinical Services areas. Determines staffing needs in each area based on patient acuity, productivity standards, and operational statistics. Monitors and evaluates vacancy and turnover rates in Clinical Services and takes corrective action as necessary to recruit and retain team members.
* Responsible for ensuring that the quality of care provided meets or exceeds standards set by the hospital and all regulatory agencies. Interprets and enforces policies in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act, legal requirements, The Joint Commission and all other licensing and accrediting bodies.
* Participates in community activities on behalf of the hospital.
* Accountable for the safe and effective provision of hospital-wide clinical care for inpatients and outpatients. Communicates regularly with the medical staff regarding problems, concerns and feedback concerning Clinical Services.

**Qualifications:**

*Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):*

Requires a BSN and must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Kentucky. Master’s Degree in a Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field. Minimum of five years experience progressively responsible administrative/management –level work experience. Experience in leadership, management, quality improvement, and Risk Management concepts and the ability to participate in developing and implementing organizational strategies to improve the delivery of patient care. Ability to plan, organize, and direct large and small scale comprehensive activities. Ability to supervise, train, and motivate team members, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative personnel, medical personnel, hospital team members, and public and other agencies.
