Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY:

1. Follows established policies and procedures.

2. Performs a variety of diagnostic radiology procedures.

3. Assists in record keeping and scheduling of all modalities provided by the hospital. Assists in covering evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating call schedule.

Essential Duties:

1. Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of good diagnostic quality; calculates and selects proper technical factors to be used; positions, explains, and instructs patients in procedures being completed; provides protection from excessive radiation exposures by making proper use of collimators and shielding in accordance with prescribed safety standards.

2. Makes exams available for interpretation; completes required records, including request forms and report forms. Provides data processing with charge slip/record of each exam performed.

3. Assists Radiologist in performing fluoroscopy and special procedure exams. Performs follow-up filming after the Radiologist has completed their portion of the exam.

4. Operates C-Arm and/or portable x-ray equipment in surgery during radiology-involved procedures.

5. Operates portable x-ray equipment to include completing exams on patient floors and emergency department when necessary.

6. Assists with scheduling, record keeping, and patient preparation of all exams.

7. Transports patient to and from area where exams are performed, utilizing wheelchairs or carts.

8. Assists department manager in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports regarding number and types of exams performed in the department. Also, assists with PI reports and functions.

9. Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition, stocked with clean linens, and other supplies necessary for various exams.

10. Completes rotations in all areas: CT, CR, Dexa, Fluoroscopy, Surgery, Portable

11. Operates CT scanning equipment to produce scans of good diagnostic quality; calculates and selects proper technical factors to be used; positions, explains, and instructs patients in the procedure being performed; provides protection of excessive radiation exposures by making proper use of shielding and collimation in accordance with prescribed safety standards.

12. Has working knowledge, experience, and training in the appropriate use of various types of contrast media used in the CT department and tomography exams, both oral and IV. Has proven ability to administer IV contrast via use of IV catheters, and to properly discontinue/remove when exam is completed.

13. Has proper education and training in recognizing and initiating treatment for any adverse drug reaction occurring during CT or tomography exams.

14. Completes record keeping tasks; prepares paper work and exams for interpretation by Radiologists.

15. Completes daily task checklist and performs tasks listed.

16. Reviews department changes and performs daily billing reconciliation.

17. Assists and instructs radiologist technology students in the fundamentals of radiology in conjunction with their clinical requirements of
MinnesotaStateTechnicalCommunity College.

**Qualifications:**

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Satisfactory completion of a formal program in Radiologic Technology approved by AMA. Experience/ability with computer dependent CT equipment and cross-sectional anatomy. Foreign applicants to hold a BS or BA degree.

1. Requires the ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patient to include;

4. Geriatric

1. The individual must demonstrate the ability to identify patients’ physical and mental status and provide specific needs to meet the patients’ unique presentation.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Required to be registered or registry-eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Working Conditions: Works at a clean, well-lighted, heated, ventilated office and xray area. Electrical and radiant energy hazards are present.

Physical Requirements: Medium strength required to position and assist patients and to push mobile xray equipment, wheelchairs, and carts. Ability to support elderly patients in weakened conditions.

Pre-employment screenings are required for this position.
