_*Job Summary:*_
This position is responsible for serving as the primary Registered Nurse delivering care to women who are admitted to the Family Birth Center. This patient population may include low-risk and high-risk pregnancies.

_*Essential Job Functions:*_
* Conducts maternal-fetal assessments. This includes physical, psychosocial, cultural, behavioral, emotional, developmental and spiritual needs. Gathers data relevant for patient care. Implements appropriate patient interventions and evaluates outcomes. Plans care appropriately based on needs identified during initial and on-going assessments.
* Provides nursing support to laboring patients, utilizing pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management. Administers, oversees and documents medication administration as ordered.
* Provides stabilization and transition of the normal newborn at delivery.
* Circulates and scrubs for Cesarean Sections.
* Cares for post-surgical patients.
* Assists anesthesiology with insertion of epidurals and provides care with regional anesthesia.
* Adheres to policies and procedures, including safety, risk management and regulatory standards.
* Keeps abreast of trends, developments and regulatory requirements.
* Demonstrates proper use of available communication tools and materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services.
* Demonstrates competent professional practice and engages in opportunities for professional growth. Demonstrates personal accountability.
* Documents care delivered and patient status utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, for example, changes in patient condition, patient responses to intervention and reassessments of pertinent findings. Receives and assures appropriateness, accuracy, timeliness and execution of physician orders.
* Identifies opportunities for, and participates in, performance and quality improvement activities to improve clinical outcomes, healthcare delivery systems and address patient safety and satisfaction and cost containment.
* Incorporates critical thinking into daily practice as demonstrated by quality of care provided, transfer of knowledge, follow through and patient outcomes. Leads, coordinates, and communicates the ongoing delivery of patient care services provided by members of assigned patient care teams; considers patient acuity and the competencies of care team members in delegating and assigning work and in adjusting assignments as necessary; assesses and monitors team performance. Advocates for patient needs so that all appropriate disciplines are informed of and participating in the plan of care.
* Prepares patients for examinations and procedures. Routinely explains delays. Assesses, monitors, and intervenes as indicated during and post examination or procedure.
* Provides health care education and guidance to patients and families, including findings and diagnoses, within scope of practice.
* Prepares patients for discharge and assists with coordinating post discharge needs.

**Qualifications:**
_*Education and Work Experience Requirements:*_
* Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN degree is preferred.
* Previous recent Labor and Delivery Experience is preferred,/or/
* 1-2 years of Medical / Surgical experience in an acute care setting.
* New nursing graduates may be considered upon completion of senior practicum in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby unit or nursery.
_*License and Certification:*_
* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
* Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification.
* Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or completion within 6 months of date of hire is required.
* National Certification Corporation (NCC) or American Nurses Credentialing Center certification is preferred.
