Leading the Cornish Food Revolution with a Brand New Look

On 26th, 27th and 28th September 2014, the eleventh incarnation of the hugely popular Cornwall Food & Drink Festival on Truro’s Lemon Quay will re-launch with a new name and a new look that embodies the serious skill, diversity and vibrancy of the Cornish food and drink industry. Introducing the Great Cornish Food Festival.

A key diary date for any gourmet and those who enjoy top quality fare, the Great Cornish Food Festival is the largest event anywhere dedicated to Cornish food and drink. It is a melting pot of the hard-working artisan producers and trail-blazing chefs that have earned the county its reputation as a destination for lovers of good food.

The centre of Truro will be transformed for three days of non-stop eating, drinking, trying and buying of the best from Cornwall’s tantalising larder. This year, celebrated seafood chef and staunch festival supporter, Nathan Outlaw, will headline a packed timetable of masterclasses, cooking challenges, tantalising tasting and loads of fun for food lovers of all ages. Over 60 exhibitors and more than 30 chefs and food experts will be taking part – and entrance is completely free of charge.

The event, which draws tens of thousands of people to the Cornish capital every year, is expertly planned and managed by the county’s agile and influential industry hub, Cornwall Food & Drink, the champions of the county’s culinary success and recognition.

Ruth Huxley, Director of Cornwall Food & Drink said: “Going back ten years, Cornish food and drink was something of a well-kept secret. When asked, people could name pasties and cream teas, which still stand for top-quality traditional Cornish fare, but now there is so much more diversity. A plethora of innovative and exciting people have made sure that these days Cornwall is known for its craftsmanship in a whole range of contemporary food and drink, from gin to chocolate. The festival rebrand is therefore a timely evolution that echoes the worldwide recognition that Cornish food and drink has gained and capitalises on this momentum to drive the industry forward.”

Cornwall Food & Drink are the publishers of the hugely successful Great Cornish Food Book, a delectable collection of recipes, insights and stories. Published last year and now in its second print run, the book’s quintessentially Cornish blue and white striped design will be translated across to the Festival’s logo and overall style – a fitting consolidation of two important landmarks in the ongoing celebration of Cornish food and drink.

Commenting on the change, Steve Whittingham, of Fodders Restaurant and Espresso Bar in Truro, instrumental in setting up the festival and still involved every year, said, “The festival has enjoyed ten successful years and grown to be worth over £1m to Cornwall’s economy to become one of the nation’s best loved food events – but we need to be continually looking forward and I’m confident that the new name and look will take it through the next decade and beyond.”
