About Kim:

Friend of the Podcast and has been on the show before.

CEO and a social media strategist at Boom! Social Media Marketing.

One of Forbes top 10 social media influencers.

Went to last years Social Fresh East conference in Tampa.

Loved how this years event spread out the “big guys”.

About Brian:

A social technology evangelist, teaches personal branding and leaders on the importance of employees advocacy, and writes the blog isocialfanz.com.

This was his first time going to one of Jason’s Social Fresh conferences.

Also loved how this event “spread out the ‘big guys’” and thought that it helped create great networking conversation because everyone was talking about the same speaker.

Loved the lineup and the mix of different messages throughout the day.

Took part in the karaoke on opening night of the conference and had a ton of fun networking there.

About the conference:

At Social Fresh conferences, no one has to miss out on any opportunity because the conferences have a one track setup rather than multiple at once.

The social environment was really valuable in making the networking aspect as good as it was.

First session speakers included: Carrie Kerpen, Lori from Jet Blue, and Jason Keith himself.

Takeaways from Carrie’s session: Facebook is a curtailing reach right now and Facebook has become more of an advertising network  than a true organic community.

Carrie did a great job of setting the stage for community.

To Brian, the theme of the conference was community and fans.

Community is about your community speaking to you and each other.

Message from Jason’s session on brainstorming: don’t waste meeting time by creating separate time to brainstorm.

Brian’s takeaway: the understanding of how teams and companies collaborate.

Second session speakers included: Jason Miller, Lindsey McCain, and David Spinks.

Kim’s favorite speaker: Jason Miller

He was very animated on the stage and did an awesome job stressing how important visual content is on LinkedIn.

Brian describes people who are on LinkedIn but don’t update their profiles as “lazy social”.

Brian’s favorite: also Jason Miller (who is actually a friend of his!)

Jason highlighted the importance of using showcase pages and did a great job of talking about a ton of slides in a short time.

Brian thought David Spinks did a great job, as well, on talking community.

Brian’s favorite slide of the conference: one of David’s on the comparison on what marketing is and what community is.

Brian really enjoyed Jessica Gioglio’s session on visual assets and the importance of them as well as Sarah Evan’s focus on the tools that you can use to create diverse content.

The afternoon session of day three speakers included: Beverly Jackson, Chris Moody, Lauren Teague and Jay Baer.

Kim says that, as marketers, talking with your fans versus talking to your fans is a key difference and key to success.

The highlight from day 3 for Kim: info graphics are not dead and are a great way to get your content out.

Brian really enjoyed the presentation from Spotify and their idea that you can take a good blog post and turn it into an info graphic, a slide share, and even a video.

Kim’s takeaway from Beverly Jackson: the collaboration pieces that go through to move a project from one phase to another are very clever.

Brian was a fan of Lauren’s presentation because of her collaborative content from internal employees and how the PGA does this to receive great photos.

Jay Baer closed Social Fresh East and talked about why social success is now a power play.

What Kim took from Jay’s presentation: you need to be in multiple places, regenerate the same content on different platforms, and share it multiple ways.

What Brian took away: although we have all these great tools and lessons, it’s really just finding what that great content is and using it.

Kim and Brian’s Social Media Six Pack:

On a scale from 1-10, how good are you at parallel parking? Brian gives himself a 9.

Which shoe do you put on first? Kim puts on the right shoe first.

One meal you could rock if you had to cook it? Brian would rock Macaroni and Cheese.

If you were a superhero, what power would you have? Kim would be able to twitch her nose and go anywhere she wants.

What’s one food item you can’t stand? Brian can’t stand mushrooms.

Do you prefer to water ski or snow ski? Kim prefers snow skiing.
