Do you ever feel like you’re a lone unicorn in a field full of reindeer?

Do you study other entrepreneurs—people running massive e-courses with thousands of students, people with complicated “email opt in marketing funnels” and “passive income streams”—and then think to yourself, “Yeah, uh… no. That’s just not my style.”

Do you feel like your “dream business” doesn’t fit the typical mold, and it’s so hard to explain what you do because most people just don’t “get it”?

Yup. Me too.

As a TV screenwriter / online business owner / publicity, marketing, and sales strategist / former actress, I don’t have a conventional résumé, or a “neat and tidy” job description. And I definitely don’t run my business in a typical way.

Recently, I got an email from a long-time reader who feels the same way. She told me:

“My business doesn’t fit the traditional mold. I read all kinds of business advice online, and it sounds like good advice, but none of it really applies to me. I’m a total weirdo.”

To all of you mold-breakers, lone unicorns, and weirdos out there, I want to say…

Stay weird.

And, I want to remind you…

You can have ANY type of business that you want.

Your business doesn’t have to fit into the traditional online business / coaching / consulting / Internet marketing structure.

You don’t have to sell e-courses if you don’t want to.

You don’t have to purchase Facebook ads if you don’t want to.

You don’t have to promote yourself on social media if you don’t want to.

You don’t have to run a blog / podcast / newsletter / webinar series if you don’t want to.

You don’t have to do anything that feels “wrong” to you. There isn’t just “one way” to build a successful business. There are millions of variations—and you can play, revise, and tweak until you find a “weirdo business model” that works for you.

I’m a business weirdo—and proud of it!

I run a year-long business mentoring program called OBSESSED, a mastermind group (for 20 select OBSESSED graduates) called The OBSESSED #Squad, and run a newsletter class called CLICKSANITY. All of that comprises 50% of my business. The other 50% is made up of my screenwriting work. Right now, that consists of working on TV Movies (basically, my DREAM JOB) and I’m working to expand into television series projects and possibly turning a script into a romance novel series. Is it “normal” to work as a business mentor / consultant AND a screenwriter at the same time? Nope. But this is my life, and my career, and I get to set my own rules. If it works for me, then it works. Period. The same is true for you.

If you’re a business weirdo, own it, claim it, and proudly chart your own course.

Don’t let somebody who gave up on their dreams talk you out of yours. Family, friends, and colleagues might grimly tell you that your dream is “totally unrealistic,” but that’s BS. You can do anything you want.

Stay weird, work hard, and hold your head high.

Stay focused on what YOU want to be doing with your life, and don’t get overly obsessed with what your peers, heroes or competitors are doing with theirs. Keep your eyes on your own paper, scribbling in your own colors.

I’ll be right there with you.
