163-Unit Multifamily Development is Inspired by Hamilton Park’s Architectural Diversity

JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 18, 2016 – Poskanzer Skott Architects’ (Poskanzer Skott) design for Embankment House enhances the architectural diversity that defines Jersey City’s Hamilton Park. Situated on an old railroad embankment that fronts 10th Street, the 163-unit multifamily development’s new construction complements the neighborhood while preserving a bit of local history.

“The Embankment House blends seamlessly with Hamilton Park’s wonderfully eclectic mix of low-rise apartments, new mid-rise offices and classic industrial buildings,” said Barry Poskanzer, AIA, a partner in the Ridgewood, N.J. based firm.

The seven-story structure – with its distinctive brick exterior and oversized windows – projects the look of a retrofit of a historic warehouse or manufacturing facility. The building, currently under construction, features all of the conveniences and lifestyle amenities of a modern residential development.

The Poskanzer Skott team embraced the challenge of incorporating the railroad embankment, using the existing stone as a visual base for the new construction. One entry to the building’s innovative two-story lobby is set into the embankment at street level, while a second allows access from the parking lot situated atop the embankment and invisible from the street. Residents will enjoy spacious, naturally lit apartments and pedestrian access to Jersey City’s mass transit, dining and shopping.

Poskanzer Skott has partnered with LeFrak for more than 15 years, during which time it has completed the design of over 800 multifamily units and more than 3 million square feet of office space for the well-known developer. An established, award-winning design and planning firm, Poskanzer Skott is recognized for its innovative and practical solutions to architectural challenges. The company has broad experience in the entire design process from concept to completion working on behalf of office, industrial, retail, multi-family, educational, health care and residential real estate clients, including the public, private and non-profit sectors.
