We’re a few hours away from the 2016 Auto Expo. So it’s time to take a glimpse into the future, and give you a quick summary of what you can expect from the Expo tomorrow. Here are 25 cars & SUVs that’ll be shown tomorrow.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The biggest launch for Maruti for the Auto Expo will be the sub-4 meter Vitara Brezza. Much about the compact SUV has already been revealed. The big price announcement may come later, but the official launch is expected to reveal some crucial details.
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai has sensed that there’s a big gap between the Creta and Santa Fe, a gap that can give it good numbers. That’s the reason the Tucson is making a comeback into India, nearly a decade after the last model was discontinued. The Tucson will be Hyundai’s big Auto Expo reveal.
General Motors Beat Essentia
The Beat Essentia is essentially the next big step for one of General Motors’ best selling cars in India. A hatchback based crossover will preview the next-gen Beat. Also, the Essentia will be used as a base to showcase a compact sedan, which GM plans to launch in India next year.
Isuzu MU-X
In a luxury SUV market exposed to the latest trends from global markets, the MU-7 is pre-historic. Isuzu wants to change that and the much more contemporary looking MU-X is the solution. The 7 seat luxury SUV will be shown tomorrow.
Isuzu D-Max Facelift
The D-Max that’s sold in South East Asia has moved an iteration ahead. Tomorrow will be when Isuzu will give India glimpse of what to expect from the new D-Max. From new engines to a new design, a lot could be cooking. We’ll know more soon.
Jaguar XE
Jaguar’s BMW 3-Series rival is ready. The sexy XE will be assembled in India and the big takeaway is that this car will be the lowest priced Jaguar, ever. The car will get Ingenium engines and will be positioned as a big volumes puller for the British brand with the “Leaping Cat” insignia.
Range Rover Evoque Convertible
The dramatic Range Rover Evoque convertible is something that’s very unique in its segment. India will witness this vehicle’s launch tomorrow. While the Evoque Convertible will be priced close to a crore rupees, the sheer drama around this vehicle should find it more than a few takers.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon is Tata Motors’ big bet in the compact SUV segment. A Ford Ecosport rival, the Nexon was first showcased at the last Auto Expo in concept form. This time around, a production version of this vehicle is expected. From engine details to features, a lot of stuff may be revealed tomorrow.
Tata Sway
The Sway is the compact sedan version of the Zica, which itself may get a new name soon. The Sway will be India’s least priced compact sedan, and will replace the Indigo eCS. It’ll share most parts with the Zica, and that’ll include the engines and transmissions as well.
Tata Hexa
The Hexa is the comeback vehicle for the Aria, which turned out to be one of Tata Motors’ biggest flops. With the Hexa, Tata’s shed excess baggage and adopted more aggressive styling. Beyond the looks, a lot of improvements and features have made it to the Hexa. Will this be Tata’s XUV moment?
Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen wants to make a comeback into SUV territory, and the newly unveiled Tiguan will lead the brand’s renewed foray. The Tiguan will share the MQB platform with the upcoming Passat, and is expected to be CKD assembled at Chakan. The vehicle could be the German, 5 seat rival of the Fortuner.
Volkswagen Passat
The Passat is another car that will make a comeback into India through the Auto Expo. This time around, it’ll take the MQB route, will look sharper and will bring in more features. CKD assembly is expected to make it competitive as far as pricing goes. We’ve heard that a hybrid version is also on the anvil for India.
Renault Duster Facelift
The Duster has gotten itself a good dusting. The facelifted model is now ready for launch and it won’t be about looks alone. Renault is facing big competition in the cpmpact SUV segment, and to fightback, the French automaker will equip the Duster Diesel with a 6 speed AMT option.
Honda BR-V
The BR-V is Honda’s big launch for 2016, and tomorrow is when the Japanese automaker will showcase the compact SUV for the first time in India. The BR-V does have some versatility built in, for Honda has the option of offering this vehicle in 5/7 seat guises. We’ll know what route Honda will take tomorrow.
Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler is a halo car, an off roader that is instantly recognizable, which is why Jeep is bringing it to India. The off roader will be unveiled tomorrow, and will soon go on sale. Expect a price announcement, along with variant details.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee is the flagship vehicle of the Jeep range, and the American SUV brand is even bringing the super fast SRT version to the Indian market. The Grand Cherokee and its SRT big brother will serve as brand builders for Jeep here.
Mahindra Halo
India’s first electric sportscar was shown at the previous Auto Expo as a concept. This time around, a production version can be expected. The Halo is also likely to get a price tag, and launch details. This sporty electric car may well turn out to be India’s Tesla Model S.
All-new Toyota Innova
The legendary Innova will move a generation ahead, and will be called the Innova Crysta. While Toyota may launch this MPV later in the year, the big ticket Expo will be used to showcase the vehicle and give prospective buyers an idea of what to expect from the all-new, “premium” people mover.
Datsun Go-Cross
The Go-Cross seeks to make the Datsun brand aspirational. A compact SUV that’s likely to be priced very, very competitively, the Go-Cross could be the most expensive Datsun sold in India. While the vehicle’s still a concept, more details on when it’ll be available for sale in India should be revealed at the unveil.
Datsun RediGo
Datsun’s big launch for this year is a small car that will slot in below the Kwid. If the Kwid’s success is anything to go by, the RediGo has all the trappings of making the Datsun brand a household name in India, something that the Sanskaari Aloknath couldn’t really do. The production version of the RediGo is expected to showcased tomorrow.
Nissan GT-R
Nissan wants to rebuild its image in India, something that’s taken a beating over the last few years after a spate of slow selling cars. The GT-R, also owned by Sachin Tendulkar, is one car that Nissan hopes will have a positive rub off on its other cars sold in India.
Nissan X-Trail Hybrid
The X-Trail is coming back to India, but not as you know it. No, it’ll still be an SUV, but a petrol-hybrid one at that. The X-Trail will be a CBU, and you can expect a hefty price tag due to that. It’ll seek to add a dash of premiumness to Nissan dealerships.
Audi A4
The all-new Audi A4’s big India landing will happen at the Expo. The luxury sedan, which is one of Audi’s best sellers globally, will take on the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class. The car’s showcase is likely, with the launch pushed to a date later in the year.
BMW X1
The BMW X1 is the vehicle that started off the trend of affordable luxury crossovers in India. The second generation version of this once-best selling crossover will be launched tomorrow. The new version will use the UKL platform, which it’ll share with the new Mini Cooper hatchback line up.
Mercedes Benz GLC
The Mercedes Benz GLC is a vehicle that has never been sold in India. The second generation GLK, the GLC will sit in between the GLA and the GLE. It’s essentially the crossover version of the C-Class, and is meant to bring in big numbers for Mercedes Benz.
