Even though pick-up trucks are not very popular in India, there is no denying the fact that the pick-up trucks are the most versatile form of automobiles. While there are are a few such trucks present in the Indian market in the form of Tata Xenon, Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and Scorpio Getaway, the market has not yet accepted the pick-up truck as a way of life. What we need is more offerings from the manufacturers so that they get noticed in the market. Here are 10 SUV based pick-up trucks that if launched, could make merry in the Indian market.
Hyundai Creta STC
The Hyundai Creta is hot selling product in the Indian market. The compact SUV has become one of the favourite cars in the Indian market. Hyundai showcased a pick-up truck based on the Creta recently. The new car will be launched in the Brazilian market in 2018.
The Creta STC is based on the same platform that underpins the Creta SUV and Elantra. In its production form, the pick-up may get dual-cabin instead of the single-cabin showcased during the Sao Paulo Auto Show. If the car comes to India, it could gain major traction, given the popularity of Creta in India.
Renault Duster Oroch
The Duster Oroch is officially sold in the Brazilian market, and it looks badass. The pick-up truck based on the Duster SUV, gets a small flatbed in the rear with double-cabin set-up. The Oroch is longer than the Duster and is powered by the same 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre flex-fuel engines that also power the Duster in the Brazilian market. Even though Renault has ruled out the launch of the Oroch anytime soon, the vehicle only costs around Rs. 10.18 lakh in the Brazilian market and will make for a very exciting buy if launched in India.
Toyota Hilux Revo
The Toyota Fortuner, which is based on the Toyota Hilux is one very popular vehicle in India. Toyota has a pick-up truck model based on the Hilux that sells in the international markets. The latest Hilux Revo get front-end design inspired from the Toyota Corolla. There are slim projector headlamps with LED DRLs with chromed slat grille in between. The Hilux gets double-cabin and enough space for five people. The vehicle is powered by the similar engine options that power the Innova and the Fortuner in India.
Mitsubishi Triton
This pickup truck from Mitsubishi is based on the Pajero SUV. The pick-up truck looks masculine and ready to take on any road surface. The Triton is available in over 140 countries around the world but is yet to land in India. The vehicle comes in both single cab and double cab format, and is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine.
Land Rover Range Rover Startech
The Range Rover is one intimidating SUV on the road. While there are no official plans of making a pick-up version of the vehicle, tuner Brabus has turned a supercharged Range Rover into a monster-looking pick-up called Startech. The rear portion of Range Rover has been removed, and the car now gets a new installation with tinted and heated glass instead. There is a new carbon fibre trim on the C-pillar and a bed rail in the cargo area. This would make a perfect vehicle for deep-pocketed pick up truck enthusiasts in India.
