BMW manufactured the M1 between 1978-1981. Initially, it was supposed to be a collaboration between Lamborghini and BMW, but things fell through and BMW went in on it alone. The results were a mid engined 3.5 liter V6 with 6 separate throttle bodies which produces 273hp and a top speed of 162 mph. 20 of the cars that were produced went straight into the Procar Championship Series and thus only left 433 cars for the world market. In 2008, BMW unveiled the M1 Homage concept without much information of it’s performance numbers or specs. Fast forward to today, BMW has mass produced the BMW i8 which has many of the same design cues except with a much more technological and fuel efficient approach. We like the i8, but BMW please bring the M1 back. It would look great next to an NSX or a GTR on a race track. Maybe even in LeMans??? Either way, keep up the good work BMW.
